Every now an then an old Randall shows up on e-bay looking like a piece of coal:

This is a case in point: No indication that the edge had been re-sharpened after it left the shop, sheath in excellent condition and a mint stone. Turns out the original owner had put a coat of varnish on the flawless ivory handle and the blade still had the original shop grease!

All that was required to expose the diamond was an application of finger nail polish remover to the handle and a wipedown of the blade.
Photos can be deceiving in both pleasant and unpleasant ways...........
