Here's some pics of a very much needed 2 night, 2day trip up around Alder Lake in the southwest corner of the Catskill Mountains.
Right near the famous trout stream, The Beaverkill.
Friday night was COLD! How cold ... a 2 gallon jug of water left out in the open froze solid! I slept well though, thanks to my down
sleeping bag rated for 20 degrees and my old dome tent – old enough that it did leak a bit late Saturday night during some rain. blush
Carried my Sargent. Did a great hike on Saturday down a river gorge and around the lake. I also used a new pack ... an external frame
model from Kelty. It's been a while since I used an external frame, internal frame packs being more popular now-a-days, but the external is
great for carrying big loads on relatively level ground.

Great photos and it looks like a great trip. I am happy to see that you are getting out again. Have you been to the Adirondacks in the fall lately?
I did some nice hikes there when I lived in the east

Great pics; let me know if you are going to retire your #5, which isn't sharpened on the top(just a reminder). Did you catch any fish? At least when it's cold, no bugs, snakes or ticks. The smell of fall in hardwood forests is one of the best smells around.

Thanks Guys.
Cap ... YOU know where I got that Sargent! And the G10 handle feels GREAT in hand.
Peter, I haven't been up to the "Daks" since August 2011. But I love it there too!
Pap, retire my #5 ???????? Never! grin No fishing but yes the cool weather meant
no bugs and the smell of fall in the woods is the best!
