Hey guys,

I thought it may be fun to start a thread for folks to post pictures of their "matching Randall pairs." I don't have any combos in piggy back sheaths, but I'm sure there are some neat one's amongst us.

Here's a picture of my 1-7 & 2-7 matching pair with stainless, brass, and stag.

Have a good weekend guys,

Jay

Very nice, Jay. That stag had to be from the same deer. Great photo too!

By Tom Leschorn in the first year he worked with Randall knives (1964): A low S 3-6 with rosewood handle, double hilt and carved ivory inserts, and a miniature Model 3 with low S and ebony handle:

Great knives from everyone!

Ron, you ARE the King of Treys.....

Here is a pair with a story of some sort....mine is just a guess. The model #2 was made 1955 to 1956 based on the sheath. (narrow stone flap, horizontal keeper strap). The model #1 was very early 1960's. Again, because of the sheath. It's a Johnson, with a horizontal stamp. These were turned vertical very quickly after production began.

Both knives have the name etch "Mac Bowen"

The problem is, black micarta was not available when either of these knives were originally made.

I assume Mac had both of these knives rehandled by the shop between 1965 and 1970. The handles may have been damaged, or maybe he just wanted a matched pair... either way, they are pretty cool.

One more with Ace-y Deuce-y.

This pair belonged to Rhett Stidham at one point. I am very proud to have it in my collection.

Early 70's old yellow micarta (3 thick, two thin spacers) with brass furniture. Both come in Model A high ride sheathes with leg tie downs.

I really don't know as I bought them from a guy on eBay. If not, the walrus ivory was carefully picked to match.

OK Rocky. Here is a Faisal set in Narwhal with pure silver hardware with pure silver extra thick spacers - talk about heavy!!! Ron Skaggs did the engraving on the Thorp with a pair of Narwhals crossing their long teeth (not tusks) on the butt in gold.

Jim, Your Walrus 1&2 were made from one BIG petrified tusk. The handle shape and finish are considered "natural".

Brian,

Thanks for the info. Since Randall specifies a particular size for CW material, how do you know how big a piece to be left "natural" they will accept? I suppose you must submit it for approval. I wonder if you need to do a little "Pre-Shaping" such as tapering the hilt end to ensure a better chance of acceptance?

Jim

The shop will accept them fairly large and still leave as "natural" as possible Jim. Of course, where fit is required to match up to the Randall hardware (i.e. butt caps, hilts, spacers and the like) more material is sacrificed. Also: A large natural handle will wind up quite "clubby" on many models. Be careful what you order with what.
Best, Capt. Chris

One more pair with old yellow micarta handles. The person I bought these from said they were ordered many years ago by a relative for a hunting trip. The trip was cancelled and the knives were never used.

Great looking pairs guys.
My neighbor dropped this pair off today, UPS driver went to the wrong house, good thing he didn't know what was in the box.
I didn't have any model 13's and now I do, can anyone tell what kind of wood the handles are? smile

Nice toothpicks and Nordics.
I am amazed how pointy the toothpicks are in person.
The big one looks like it could go right through me between the ribs.

RRB,
Most sets, including many that I have made, come with the larger knife being stainless. All of my orders for the first "4" Randall mini offerings were ordered with the larger, companion knife, #'d the same and in stainless. Nice set you've got there.
Best, Capt. Chris

How about a pair of Criders? Jack wasn't happy with me when I received this set. He told me to just "drop the handle material off" at the Randall shop. When they were complete he told me to "stop by the Randall shop and pick them up". I obeyed all of his commands and requests. Upon Jack actually "seeing" what I had ordered a year or so later, he told me he would "never make another pair like that again".
Ok by me. I like 'em...and they're still in the safe. Well: They stretched their legs today for a photo shoot. Matching lamenated pistachio handles and model "C" sheaths in black. I hope ya'll like 'em. Now...What about the rest of ya'? I know there are more sets out their that are "ready for their close-up"!
Best, Capt. Chris

A pair of Trappers with yellow micarta handles. One has a five inch blade, the other is six inches. I like the "heft" of these better than most other knives.

Daniele - The #25 with six inch blade has an "Antique Gold Micarta" handle. I did not buy the knife new from the Randall shop, but when I got it, the knife still had the original shipping box and wrapping paper. The white butcher paper has the notation "AGM" on it (among others) which I have assumed to mean Antique Gold Micarta. Since the handle material on the five inch knife appears to be the same, I have assumed that it, too, is Antique Gold Micarta. I don't know when the knives were made.

They're both antique gold micarta and, with the exception of one brass but cap being "standard" and one being "rounded", they are a perfect match.
Nice set. Thanks for posting.
The Black micarta set is excellent as well. Glad to see folks pitchin' in.

This is a pair of five inch Little Bears. They were identical twins before being scrimshawed. One was done by Sandra Brady and the other by Jean Curtis. The Curtis scrimmed knife is signed with her last name and dated '83. I know Sandra Brady personally and asked her about the one she did and she said it was also done in the 1980's. I found the Brady knife (without sheath) at a meeting of the Ohio Gun Collector's Association last year and "Tunefink" recently tipped me to the Curtis knife which was up for sale on-line. The Curtis knife came with a Johnson rough back tight stitched sheath that was marked for a #3-5 knife and "12/" was inked in between the 3 and the 5. So, I need to find a similar #3-5 sheath for my Brady scrimmed knife.

Great pair of little bears, Buckspen!
The shorter blades give the knife a different look, more like the Captain's Specials.

I might be bending the rules of "matching pair" since these are neither the same model or wood, but they do compliment each other and I display them together. Thanks to forum member tnburton for my new 25 maple burl shown here with my 26 ironwood.

Thank you for your comment's...and taking the time to post.
While my skill as a photographer leaves a lot to be desired,
maybe you were commenting on the Knife ..The 'Stanaback Special'...
if you do not own this Randall Dealer special.....once you have held one, I'm sure you will want to add one to your Randall collection.

Mr. Rex,
Seek one for my collection, but it must be hard to find those Stanaback Specials with slab sides, they seem to be very practical and comfortable to work with them besides being very appealing to the eye. Thanks for posting those pictures.

Here are a couple of Nordic's that you might like to see. They both have ivory handles and one has silver hardware.

Walter,

You have a good eye. Yes, the Mountain Lion scrimmed knife has silver hardware. By the way, Jere Davidson did the engraving.

They are not. I have no idea if here are any plans for the Randall shop to introduce that design into the Randall lineup. I doubt it, as it doesn't appear to have enough interest to give it legs.
Maybe someday?

Here are the matching Ivory #25 and #26. By next year these will be scrimshawed Rick Bowles with scenes from Alaska. I also plan to finish the maple burl slab for a display stand.

Here's a pair of Blondes; a 6" Camper Special with 01 steel, NS squared hilt, thumb notches, all red spacers, finger grips, wrist thong and compass with the Cap's bone linen handle.
Also a Stanaback 5" Special with SS blade, Squared NS hilt, thumb notches, alum/black spacers, finger grips, wrist thong, compass, silver name plate and Cap's bone linen handle. There's a pair to draw to.

Thanks Rod, I especially love the MOdel C no-hone sheath for the Camper Special. Very unique and functional. I'm having a hard time choosing the Camper Special or my # 3-6 for hunting this fall.

Gorgeous Knives,

I guess it would be rather facetious to ask if they are going to be users. grin grin grin

Just Kidding.

The handle material and silver hardware really honor the RMK craftsmanship.

The difference in the RMK logo stamps is amazing.

Thank you for the photos of your FI handled RMK. Without a doubt, you have the best collection of fossil ivory RMK I have seen.
As far as I am concerned you could post a different photo of your FI everyday of the year. It would make my day!

Here's another way to look at your pair.

If you want to keep you and your camera's reflection from showing on the blade on the second photo, hold the camera over the handle and shoot at an angle at f/11 or f/16 for more depth of field.

Hope this helps.

AV8R, you posted, "both numbered "1" from Randall........"

Just to be clear, the number "1" is etched on the right side of the blade (opposite side from the trademark side)?

Buck: Thanks for bringing the pictures up. Each knife has a marking below the logo. It can be seen on the closeup of the 12-9. They're both marked the same. The original owner, knifemaker Earl Witsaman, was good friends with Bo Randall and had these knives made on request. Randall marked the knives this way, but I don't know what it signifies. Both knives have the exposed flat brass nut. Thx again for the photo help.

I'm curious if anyone has seen another early 12-9 with stainless. Could this be the first one??? As far as the Bear bowie, I believe Griggs made the first stainless 12-8 in the late 1960's. Thx,

Pete

Meaning no disrespect, but the number "1" below the trademark doesn't appear to be something the Randall Shop would do.

The number would likely be etched on the blade in a neat professional font.

Again, not trying to "torpedo" the story, the number just doesn't look like it came out of the Shop.

Perhaps, Capt Chris or Tunefink or Crutchtip will offer their observation on the "number".

The only trademark side etches I have seen are "KIT" for the old kit knives.....and the maker initials for the authorized "out of shop finishers like Leschhorn. I don't have any experience with an etch like the one in the pictures..... sorry.

You don't see many bowies with 7 spacers, usually they were 5 spacers in the 50-'s and 60's.

Never say never, but I agree with Buck..... not a shop etch.

Guys: Thanks for the info and Buck, no disrespect taken. I'm definitely not trying to construct anything but a well documented and factual history on the knives. I just bought this set from Dave Harvey, who got it from Earl's widow. Dave gathered what info he could on the knives from Earl's wife and he spoke to Gary Randall about them. Dave was impressed with the fact that the blades are stainless and was trying to establish the rarity of such blades on early bowies. He documented what he knew about the knives in letter form, so I'd have some authenticated history. Dave never had any mention from Gary that the etch might have been done outside the shop, so I never really thought about it. I agree with your opinions and I'm going to have to say "jury's out" on the etch at this point. I appreciate your comments very much and would also welcome any info with regards to the history of stainless on the early bowies. Gary told Dave Harvey that back when these were made, the shop was filling special requests and trying different things. Based on his and Bo Randall's close relationship with Earl Witsaman, Dave said Earl most likely got Bo to agree to do these knives in stainless for him. I just figured that whoever forged the blades from stainless at that time probably just did the etch with Bo's approval. I still think that's a possibility, but also have an open mind to that not being the case. I'm going to research these knives as far as I can go and hopefully be able to put together more actual facts. Please don't ever think that I would try to put my own "story" to the knives. I would never do that, all I'm after is the real history. The knives themselves are really cool beasts, I love the set and it's fun to try to figure out the history. Again, I welcome your info, opinions and I appreciate your wealth of knowledge and your time. Thanks,

Pete

Pete...... the 'early' Stanaback Special Limited.... 4" blade, also has the number etched on the Front of the blade beside the RMK stamping..the 4 5/8" blade is etched on the back side of the blade.

Rex: Nice set there. Seeing your knife makes me feel that etch on mine was most likely done at Randall. I'll ask Dave Harvey to speak with Gary Randall again specifically about the etch this time. BTW, if anyone here has never dealt with Dave, I can attest after knowing him for 20 years, that his integrity and his character are solid gold. None better. Rex, thanks again, helps a lot,

Pete

Pete,

I have no doubts about what Dave wrote about the knives regarding origin of the pair. I met Dave at Blade Show. 2013. His reputation is well known.

It's just that the "number 1" design on your blade looks like someone "scratched" (?) an outline of a number "1" instead of an acid-etched number "1", which is in the serial number, "010" on Rex's knives.

If the number "1" on your pair of Randalls were in the same font & etching as Rex's, I would not be as concerned about the validity of the numbering of your knives. It just doesn't look like Randall Shop workmanship.

I realize too that there is a large span of years between the production of your knives and Rex's knives, but I've seen etching on Randalls that went off to Vietnam, and none showed the design found on your knives.

As stated in the previous post, I'm not trying to "torpedo" the history of the knives. I believe everything else you and Dave have stated. But when you compare the two number "1"s on yours and Rex's, there's a concern for further investigation as to who numbered your knives.

My apologies if I'm overbearing the quandary of the numbering of your knives. I look forward to hearing the voice of authority from the Randall Shop regarding this.

Buck: No worries, I'm not concerned. There's nothing to "torpedo" here. The knives are what they are and they're legit, with 1 owner previous to me and that being a long time repected maker/collector who was personal friends with Bo and Gary Randall. Bo Randall took delivery of knives made by Earl Witsaman and put them directly into the Randall museum collection. They were long time friends. As a little time goes by, the etch is concerning me less and less. A stainless seven spacer Sportsman's bowie is a very rare bird. My main question regarding the etch was if it signified that this one was the very first with stainless. Maybe, maybe not, I don't know. Would be nice to know if it was the first, but doesn't matter greatly, the knife is still one of only a few. As far as the etch itself, keep in mind that my picture is an extreme closeup. In person, it looks professionally etched, not scratched in and after seeing Rex's, I don't doubt that mine was shop done. Dave thinks it was and I trust his opinion. Anyone who knows Dave, knows that he's not prone to reckless speculation. The history of the knives is not in question, it's documented and solid. The etch is there on both and there's no reason to think that it was not done at Randall when the knives were made. At any rate, it's secondary to what the knives obviously are and to the well documented history of ownership. Don't get me wrong, I do appreciate your interest in these and it's definitely fun to have a pair that is rare enough to spark discussion. Thx,

Pete

Here is a pair consisting of a #1-8 and a #2-8 with yellow micarta handles. I actually bought these from the same person at two different times. When I bought the first one, I didn't know he had the other. He contacted me later and offered it to me.

Thanks, Jimmy. I liked the composition because the colors in the knives and guns seem to complement each other well. You may find this photo interesting. It's a pair of holsters for the little derringers and a custom made miniature belt.

That rig is cool as the pistol. Now you need to get a pet monkey and train him up. Maybe a Randall mini #1 in gold micarta also.

I saw another rig like this one at a Colt Collector's Association convention a few years ago. The owner told me that the belt on her rig was made by Bianchi, but there is no maker's mark on mine. The holsters are marked with the Colt brand. I bought the belt and holster rig and then had to find a pair of pistols for it.

Love those sub-hilts! The hammer mark coming down to the choil looks great.

Awesome job!

Very early work by Tom Leschorn: "Low S" = 1964 = the 1st year that Tom started working on Randalls. The handle of the double hilt 3-6 is of Brazilian Rosewood and the brass butt is pinned. The carved ivory inserts include Ton's initials. The handle of the miniature Model 3 is of ebony and it's custom made Johnson sheath has a "wraparound" keeper:

I hope you enjoy.

Best,

Ron,

That is some pair; Tom's Ivory inserts are incredible when you consider the shape of the handle.

I would have a special place in the cabinet and look at them alot!

I've been fooling around with my camera and computer, taking photos and resizing them.
For practice, I decided to enter a set of knives in this category.
Not just a pair--four knives with similar features ordered over a span of several years.
All have stainless blades; green micarta handles; N.S. hilts; finger grooves; duralumin butt caps; red & aluminum spacers. (The #23 has a thong hole, too.)
All the sheaths are the standard for each respective model.

The story i got with this set was that they were carried by Don Donaldson in Vietnam. He was a Huey Pilot with a unit of the U.S. Army Air Cavalry. It has the attached gun belt for a Single Action big bore, 44 or 45. The stone is missing. Has anyone ever seen a set like this?

Hi Chris! Yes, please delete this embarrassing entry. And you were correct....I wanted to put up the latest two I got from you. Maybe now I will wait until I have another pair (or two) before I try again. Putting three pairs up together might cause a stir.

Jake,

From the spacers alone, they appear to be from the 60s. The original sheaths and stones would help nail it down even closer.

Here's an interesting pair. I call 'em "Palm Gamblers". The black palm Small Gambler was ordered with aluminum & black spacers, while the red palm one was ordered with aluminum & red spacers. Hope you like them, Capt. Chris

Looks like the 7.5 has smaller teeth than the 5.5. Is it older?

My pair of Sasquatchs, large and small. Though big and bigger would be a better discription, you could hardly call the smaller 8" knife small.

Here is my lastest pair. Two Drop Point Hunters with old yellow micarta handles. One is inscribed to Alan Moir and one to Jim Moir. They did not come to me as a pair. I was happy to get the first one and REALLY happy when I found the second one.

Good example of the fact that Randalls are truly hand made. Same models, but the slight differences are evident. The blade shapes and grinds are different and it appears that the hilts are also different. Very nice pair.

These two knives were offered for sale in Amoskeag Auctions sale #100 (March 2014). I bid on both but got only the one marked "Jim Moir". The other one (marked "Alan Moir") was reported sold to an "onsite bidder". To my great surprise, that one appeared again in their #102 sale (August 2014) and I got it this time. I don't know why that happened, but I was pleased to be able to put the two knives together again.

It has taken me about 15 years to re-unite the Brothers but it's finally done! I had regretted selling off part of this "matched set" (hence the proper content)...and had agressively gone after them for their "reunion".
I hope you like them. They are:
* Model #20-4 1/2", Yukon Skinner
* Model #23-4 1/2", Gamemaster
* Stanaback Special-4"
All are stainless, with thumb notches, nickel silver "old style" squared top single hilts, aluminum & black spacers, green "canvas" micarta handle, wrist thongs and, of course: Ward Gay Handles! All 3 have black, no hone sheaths. As Perry would say: "Thanks for lookin'".
Stay sharp, Capt. Chris
PS: The "3rd" pic was taken 15 years ago!...CCS

I especially like the brother's Moir pair shown last page... cool how they were parted and then reunited.

Here is a pair I recently acquired that were shown a long time ago by previous owner, Tom Dehart. I think they deserve a second look ... Delrin handles on 1-8 and 2-8. I like these...a lot.

My friends, these aren't going anywhere anytime soon. They are just my thing...about 1967 or so, late '60s period, heart of Vietnam era, still wrapped in the original green tinted wax paper they were delivered with. The Delrin handles are slick and feel different... well heck... they ARE different, which is the main thing that makes the pair unique. Tom did me a favor and honor by parting with them.

Why did the shop quit using Delrin? I used to know and am too lazy to look it up. Please enlighten me. I certainly like the way it looks.

I don't know if the answer to that question has ever been asked or covered. Nor (in my opinion) has the time span for the use of Delrin been documented or accurately defined. Mr. Gaddes did not address Delrin in his book and what has been written here and there on occasion have been declarative statements issued without backup data, that were then repeated as fact until it became circular scholarship (where have I seen this tendency before?).

But I can speculate about Randall-Delrin based on on-going occasional research into the product, and examination of the published Randall knives with Delrin handles (there aren't many).

Delrin was developed commercially about 1960-62 with the opening of a plant to produce it, but only after some patent issues (I think). Randall apparently first used Delrin shortly thereafter, probably by about 1964 at latest, based on a picture of a "SS" knife with a Delrin handle. This was at a time when the shop was apparently experimenting with different handle materials, including micarta, as a possible alternative to Tenite ... which had a cheap plastic look to it.

Delrin continued to be used off and on by Randall, under the moniker of "ivorite" until the end of the 1960s-early 70s, or so. But it apparently not many knives were made with it. Why? I speculate that the success of Micarta as an artificial handle material made the use of Delrin moot ... except for those that wanted a specific ivory look without the cost of ivory. At this time ivory was readily available but cost bucks.

With the further development of Micarta as a material in the early '70s with new colors including gold and white, Delrin was probably superseded by market demand and shop preference and decision. It would make production sense to limit the number of artificial products used for handles.

But what is interesting is that Delrin was also developed by others as a handle material for knives in the 1960s and 70s. Many colors were indtroduced including multi-colors that resemble stag, and the material went on to become possibly the most common knife handle material ever used ... because most of the Swiss army knives use Delrin for their scales even today.

There are some misconceptions (my opinion) about Delrin.

1. It discolors... well not so much... it is easily cleaned.

2. It is too soft and is easily marred. Well, nope. It is quite hard, harder than Micarta and Tenite and is difficult to scratch. Indeed it is used for ball bearings, billiard balls, and the stock of the M-16 rifle. Don't know where the "soft" rumor started.

3. It is too slick feeling... well, yes it does have a a slick feel, but so does a well-used ebony handle. The difference is that the Delrin feels cold and ebony feels warm. I suspect the cold-slick feel put off some people, like holding a cucumber just taken out of the refrig.

4. The initial limited colors and artificial look of Delrin WHEN MR. RANDALL EXPERIMENT WITH THE MATERIAL gave it an artificial translucent look. Yes, this is true in my opinion. The early colors were only black and white and brown (there is no indication I've found that Randall used any Delrin color other than white) ... and were not particularly attractive especially compared with solid substantial look of Micarta. But that changed by early '70s with development of the coloring process for the material.

Summary... I suspect that the development of Micarta as a handle material in the mid-lkate 1960s superseded Delrin and limited its use to only substitute ivory. Better coloring of Micarta then caused Randall to quit offering Delrin entirely though it may have appeared occasionally into the 1970s. Without the development of Micarta, Randall might be using Delrin today.

Footnote: I still have a suspicion that General Westmoreland's famous ivory handled APFK actually had a Delrin handle.
Footnote: This line is suppposed to be dedicated to matched pairs and I have diverted it to Delrin. Perhaps a general topic opened in the other forum would be more appropriate. Regards.

Gee, I wonder how these misconceptions could ever come about??

FYI, Bo Randall said that it was an ivory handle....good enough for me...

Well, if Mr. Randall said it, it is the word. I have a picture that seems to show a translucent looking handle. Gen. Westmoreland apparently acquired his knife before mid-1964 which would correspond approximately with the date of the SS knife shown above ... which is why I was interested (there is one on-line post that seems to indicate his knife was an "SS" stamped blade but I don't know how reliable that information is).

I've written a letter to the family using my SF lineage to ask about the location of the knife and if it were possible to get a picture. No response yet. Still hopeful. Few more pictures of my delrin pair for those interested.

The original green butcher paper accompanies each of the knives and on the papers are hand writing shorthand notes describing the contents, and a price tag that reads "$63.00 + $6.30 = $69.30."

Well, Westmoreland went to Citadel for one year, then to West Point. I queried Citadel because that seems to be conventional wisdom for its location...but the reply I got didn't confirm it (that's a nice way of saying...).

I suspect the knife may have been part of his estate and his heirs may have it. His papers are in the U. of South Carolina State library. Thanks for the tip. Regards. Oh.. If I find it and get a picture, I'll share it of course.

As soon as I hit the add file icon to choose a pic, it tells me the file is too big.. yet I haven't even chosen one yet.. all I have is my phone.. can that be the problem? Any help appreciated.. this is my favorite site on the web... I want to participate lol

Since many smartphones now are between 5 & 8 megapixel, the file size generated, 3MB to 6MB, is usually too large for the Forum's limit of under 2 MB.

A little OT fact, I use a Canon camera, which can generate a Raw, as opposed to a JPEG, photo image of about 26 MB, which is 6MB larger than the hard drive in a MAC SE/30 computer that I bought in 1990. Amazing.

Thanks Captain. I don't know what was up. Any idea when these would of been made? I have heard so many things on that, not sure what to think. I wanted a mod 1 for a long time, then had these drop in my lap... would like to find out as much as I can... Randall will tell if ya send them the knives.. don't really want to do that. They are the stars of my collection though... such well made knives, beautiful and deadly looking all at once.

Here's my latest Model 19-5 and my Model 5-6 with the same options; Carbon Blade, NS Hilt, Red spacers, Blonde "Cap" Linen handle, Thong, Compass and Finger Grips. The 19 has deep finger grips and a custom Gutcher Basket Weave Highrise with Canteen snap.

great looking pair of knives, do you have a hunt coming up to try them out?
I can't tell, but does the 19 have model 14 finger grips

Yes, the 19 does have the 14 finger grips, good observation. I mentioned that on the other post with just the 19 as the subject. I tried to do a search on Knife of the week Model 19 but got 1000 entries.

Pappy,

That 19 is just awesome, 1 of my favorite models.
Does the finger grips that way make the handle more like slab sides?

Yes with the deeper finger grips and the heaviness of the 5" 19, it is really comfortable.

No it was dealer supplied Doug. The crown on the top knife is roughly 2.3". These definitely fill your hand. Thanks for the reply guys.

I suppose these make a pair, sort of...
To my knowledge the only two knives having NATO compasses installed by the Randall shop--they're not doing that anymore.

Do you know the reason why, on they not installing the NATO compasses any longer?

Because some @+)#a$$ that no longer posts here did EXACTLY what I said would happen...t(he)y requested even yet a different size compass and raised a stink when we refused...

RMK should keep in stock 50 different style compasses so every idiosyncrasy can be accommodated....then, and only then....we can start on all the other options......what do you mean, you cannot put a #25 handle on a #2!!! why can't we get any sheath on any knife we order....just what's going on over there!!!
it's never ending....

Thanks for the explanation, Scott. Until now, I didn't know why, either.

Scott,

Those installed NATO compasses look great! You shouldn't let one bad apple ruin it for everyone else. The policy should simply be: standard or NATO compass only, your choice, price will vary. smile

From what the Captain said earlier, sounds like the Ward Gay handle situation is like the NATO compass situation --NLA because someone abused the situation and ruined things for everyone else. Maybe some day RMK will reconsider. I would love to have a Ward Gay handle with a NATO compass. Just kidding Scott. ;-)

Here is a pair of 28s that are a good example of "custom made".
They are both model 28s but there is a significant difference in the size of them. The black one is significantly larger and much heftier in weight. It is neatly half way between the smaller green one and a Sgt's model. Pretty cool, IMHO. I really like the Woodsman and I definitely have two different ones. I also have another black one with NS hilt and it is between these two in size.

...Blame Tunefink! He started it! Posting on FB he asked for photos of AGM and/or Old Yeller. This is a pair I ordered about 12-15 years ago. Model #4-4 1/2 and matching #7-4 1/2", optioned as follows:
* Stainless steel
* Thumb notches
* Nickel silver single hilts
* Aluminum & black spacers
* AGM handles
* Wrist thongs
* Compass installed
Stay sharp, Capt. Chris

They were both ordered as such but the #4 is a little more predominant. I have a Stanaback Special that was in my exhibit @ Blade that is a "true...real" teardrop-shaped handle. If I get a chance I'll post a photo of it.
Best, Capt. Chris

Thank you, I have had it for a long time, it's a user. I didn't have it made, it came with the thong hole & a waxed sheath.
It's not center cut ivory either.

Any feed issues on the KSG? I think K-T did a pretty good job straightening it out when they put out the gen 2's.Good thing ammo's cheap..

Great looking 19's, I especially like the thong hole.

I have only had feed issues when I rapid fire, and in K-Ts defense it was me anticipating the shot as I cycled.
Also it's a lot like my M-4 in that it doesn't like short brass.

Great pairs, Eric, all of them! I especially like the grind of the #14. The blade is not shaped like a spearpoint although it has sawteeth. Very nice!

Funny how the handles age through the years...
With the recent delivery of the build knife, I now have another pair to post up.
Not a "Bear Camp"....BUT close
