I thought this could be fun.

I have some Randall Knives in cases on the wall. I also have a few users handy to grab quickly when I need one.

But I have a bunch packed away which I don't see very often. I imagine this might be the case with many here.

So lets see some of those "safe queens" ... I'll start off with this
CLINTON SPECIAL with fluted buffalo horn handle. I was told this was probably the last or one of the last buffalo horn handles
to be fluted.

Tony,

That T/C Fluted Buffalo is one of the best; I have been looking for one of these for years. Gladly relieve you of this one; that way you don't have to polish it or let it take up too much room in your safe-Just Sayin'

Tony,

Great idea. This 12-9, #14 Grind stays packed & stashed most of the time. This one is a hand full. With the SS blade and all NS hardware you wouldn't pack this one if carry weight were a concern.

Great Stag-Beefy & Dark; love the collar & hardware.

Don't have a 12-9# 14 grind yet but will soon!

This is probably the most ornate fighter I own....

I believe it's etched and inlayed by Shaw-Leibowitz who did the Lewis and Clarck Randalls. I don't have any documentation and have not been able to locate Leonard Leibowitz.

Here's one I don't see to often. I may go visit it soon.

Close up.

Looks good. Looks even better when you see the components that make it up. Doug Cream silver and David Warther ivory.

Many years ago I thought I wanted to have this scrimshawed on this knife.

Sam Houston is my favorite Texas hero.

Never did have the time or $$$$ to make this happen.

That is one beautiful knife; the engraving is classic and the gold inlay for the bear is awesome.

Thanks for sharing that one!

David,

Thanks! Bought the tusk and then looked at what knives I could make that maximized the yield from the Narwahl. Took almost two years. That's all fine silver too, except for the Tri.

Always liked the Sasquatch's by Doug Kennefick & Rick Bowles was doing his 30th Anniversary Set at that time, can't go wrong with Rick's set. That left the biggest piece and that was a no-brainer to make a Smithsonian Heavy# 12-11.

My photo skills are not the best! Working on that for the New Year.

Here are two that I don't handle very often.

The 5-7 has fine silver fittings.

The 1-6 has nickel silver fittings.

Buck when is the first class of photography school?

Here is a really fine Narwhal knife with pure silver hardware and Ron Skaggs engraving. Note the two Narwhals on the butt cap with crossed tusks in gold inlay:

Awesome display Jim!

Sure can see the difference in color between pure silver and NS in the photo. I don't think I have seen the two materials side-by-side before.

Beautiful knives, I am partial to the Model 2's.

Holidays I am feeding 25-35 people depending on the holiday; I opt for the electric knife, two at a time if they are hungry!

There is a picture of Dave's Narwhals in this thread from 2010. As usual, Peter Kaufman does a good job documenting his travels.

Looking at the pictures, I'd say there are a few safe queens....

So.... let's "dust off" this old thread.

Tony,
That is a updated Ward Gay on that 3-5.I also have a 20 that has
that handle on it too.Got to give all the credit to the Captain for talking me into that.He took the knives to Gene Beal with an original Ward Gay and the 3 and 20 came to life. Will try to get the 20 posted up tonight.Just finally learned to do this picture thing and it's still a struggle for me.Still have a long way to go to catch up with other folks that do some outstanding pictures.
Thanks

Here are 4 more oldies with natural handles.. Note no cracks or checks on any of the handles.. The Model 1-8 was Hunts, and its pictured in all of his books. Any guess on the one in the Moore Sheath?

A big Thank You to Mitch for walking me through on getting these photos resized and posted.. Mitch, show me your 1's, ill show you mine..

Pat,

Love your Mini's. Would like to buy some more but hesitant. There are Randall made Mini's and then there are Don Hedrick's. I think that Don's work is fantastic and own a couple. However,do collectors look at the Don Hedrick any different than an RMK Mini's?

What is the handle material of the asymmetrical/symmetrical blades with the engraved hilts? It is gorgeous.

That Lil' Bear is sweet! I have to agree the Bears & S'quatch are the best shaped blades. Although Rick Bowles skinner shape is also up there!

I agree with the Bear Bowie and Sasquatch blade shapes being amongst the most very attractive. And, I also like the 'elegant' shape of the Mod #1, and the 'this blade means business' shape of the Mod #19. Oh, did I forget to mention the Mod #27 shape?!! On a similar subject....Which one of your kids is your favorite?!!!

Tony,

How about a pair of TC's!

These are my first two TC's; really like the shape, balance & feel in your hand. One is Ironwood with fine silver. The other I think is Ivorite with Nickel Silver & polished smooth coolie cap; bought it at Blade without doc's.

OK,
As promised...I will try and "post" more often. Here's one that, just this morning (Christmas Eve morning) I got out of my stash, wiped the dust (and drool) off of it, and returned it to it's nest!
Model #12-6", Sportsman Bowie, in redwood burl.
Ho-Ho, Capt. Chris

I'll add this one to the "wood pile" I don't have many with wooden handles...it was not the most popular material for fighters. But, this one walked up to my table at Blade and I thought it was a really neat piece. I don't know who did the checkering and inlay....it is well executed.

It's an early 90's knife i a Johnson smooth back sheath.

Thanks for posting more great knives guys

Here is an old Nordic Knives Special before the 11-3.25 became a non-catalog knife. As expected it is ironwood, but not as expected, Ron Skaggs engraving

Tune - I noticed that wood handled fighter on your web site earlier today. Interesting that you would put up a photo just now. I like the checkered handle. Can you tell what the inlay material is?

Ron Skaggs did a superb job of engraving that one; beautiful detailing that compliments a nice piece of Ironwood. Thanks for sharing that one.

Thanks guys,

I am not sure what the inlay is..... it could be a little piece of fossil ivory. It has a grain to it and changes color across the piece.

While this configuration can be ordered from the shop, this is one of 200 that was commissioned by AG Russell many years ago. AG Russell provided the Maple Burl handle material. I was not aware of this when I purchased from Nordic. Nordic had acquired it from the original owner in a trade/sale. I had the knife with me on a visit to the RMK shop quite a few years ago and GTR identified it as one of the AG Russell 200.

Two minute details on that knife jump out at me(besides the obvious)that help make it a stunning #14. The blade stamp, it is full and evenly stamped, and the thin taper of the hilt. An "identical" knife may have a thicker, differently shaped hilt and no two blade stamps are exactly alike.
Stunning example, there, Cap.

I noticed you shot it at 1/8 sec at f4 @ ISO 800.

Was the camera hand-held?

Tony,

That’s a real classy looking knife. Love the color combination with the Ironwood & Brass. Personally I think the Crows Beak BC looks best with the FCH when used on a big knife. And of course the brass & black spacers complete the package.

I like finger grips on burl wood. It seems to "expose" more of the grain. Which makes sense, I guess, as there is more surface.

Great wood!!!

Thank all of you for the comments.I picked it up at the Blade show last year.I can't tell you how many pieces I looked at and carried back to the Captains table before he gave the nod to this one.The only knives I have more of than the 12-6 LBB's are 10's..

Jason,
this Mod.#10-4" probably comes from a broken 7"blade.
Dimension of handle & grind do confirm this.
Handle was just blast sanded and the 3rd pin was converted in "wrist thong".
Thanks for asking.

Thanks Steve,
I got a text from him at the Orlando show telling me he got some cool stuff and I would probly want some of it.I didn't know about this for a couple of days when he sent pic's.It is super cool.He left to go hunting, came back and left again. He is still there chasing Bambi. He could very well have something else to relieve me
of some more $$$$$$$$$$$.

Billy

Great looking rig. When I was hanging out at Sullivans a couple years ago, Greg was working on a similar rig. It may have been yours, as I don't recall the sheath covering.

Thanks much.I will try to get a picture taken and post it.
Right now I can't figure out how to get inside my light tent....
I have had a request from Carolina Cousin(aka Grasshopper)to bring it with me to the Blade show.May do that as it would be good for show and tell..That would be another plate on the Captains table.

This sheath is no where as fancy as Billy's rig. Greg Gutcher made it for me many years ago.
It is great for carrying my 5-5. The only draw back you don't want to sit in your vehicle with it, it is uncomfortable.

In the spirit of resurrecting a great topic from Tony; I would like to post a new knife that I acquired, the Shaw Leibowitz "The Black & White".

Do not know if any others exist in the black & white unplated version, but I loved the look of it and thought it really showed the lines of the etching.

Tony,

Bringing this one back to the top!

I was able to pick-up a few months ago a fluted Buffalo Model# 2-5 with Sullivan's Zebra Sheath! Looking for one of these for years.

Now the search begins to find one in a TC Special; that would be a nice set!

Tom, I have a TC Special with black and silver spacers, fluted buffalo horn, and black sheath with ostrich inlay. Here is the kicker. I had met Mr. Tom at Blade, called him, and sent him the sheath to sign. He signed it and mailed back to me the day before he passed away. It's a treasure for me. Not for sale at this time, but would love to e-mail a photo. I just cannot master the photo posting. Jerry jerryhelm@live.com
