Those are beauties, Max. Three of my favorite models. Love those grinds and extra spacers.
Good luck on your sheath search.

I sure did notice. They all appear to be in perfect condition. How did you acquire them and why no sheaths? Do you have a favorite? I just pick up my first 102 Woodsman and I can't put it down. What a cool little knife.

I saw one on ebay and I contacted the owner and he said he had three ( the one's here) and I offered him one price for all of them. he never had the sheaths. I think they were from a closed out hardware store, display models and the sheaths were lost. I have all these model's with sheaths just not the condition, inverted stamps, spacers or two liners. I thought they were cool, so I bought them. Don't know what I'll so with them, thought I would find the sheaths and sell them. you never know what you will find if you ask.

that is a nice one. did you buy it?
I love the older Buck's. my favorite is the Model 103.
I wish the three I have were 103's. Maybe I'll trade all these for some nice 103's in the future.

No, I didn't buy it. I collect NIB '73-'79 three liners read point up. I only own four 100 Series knives and these four are my favorite models. Next would probably be the 103 or 118, but I'm content with these four for now.

Great looking knives Tom,
Need to add the General and the Nemo to that collection then you have both ends of those beauties covered.

Two of my most treasured, and used on many bucks, Bucks; and both were gifts: -the 103 from my now 91 year old Father-in-Law before I asked for his daughter. -the 109 from that wonderful daughter the first year offered by Buck..."just because." God willing, they'll have more hunting memories added in the future.

The Rick Bowles Hunter & Skinner models appear as clones to the Buck 103. All variations of the Green River Skinners... In my eyes they do anyway !!

I agree Michael, I also have the Russell Green River skinners. Skinning knives are my favorites, that's why I like the Model 11 Randall so well.

here's my 119 Special been sitin the tool cabinet 30 years should I clean it up? Personally, I would clean this one up. Bucks are not like Randalls. You can't really hurt their value by having them refinished, unless they are a rare knife from the 60s or earlier. This one appears to be from 1977 to 1981 due to the swivel sheath and three Micarta spacers. The blade is 440C. If refinished by Buck, the knife would probably be worth twice as much versus its present condition. The Buck shop does a great job with restoration and they're very conscientious about not going "too far". They use the same equipment from the 70s to refinish the blade, so the satin finish will look the same as the original. The Phenolic handle and aluminum hardware will look new again. Buck sheaths are also easy to maintain. A little black leather die on worn areas and you're good to go. Best of all, Buck's "spa treatment" is $6.95. Now if you're sentimental about the wear on the knife from sitting in your tool cabinet for 30 years, well, that's another story.

Good looking 103, Duke. Probably dates to around 1972 because of the 3 line inverted blade stamp. 440C blade.

Thanks Tom.......appreciate your comments......I certainly don't have the knowledge that you do re: these; have others & if time later will post pics. of them along with sheathes for all. Just realized that this thread may belong in another area now as these aren't for sale. I'm sure moderators can/will fix if so. Thanks again.

What year did Buck start stamping the model number on the back of the sheath?

Tom, from what I have read, the model number stamp on the sheath start in 1969+-. I also understand that there were two different types of flap's used prior to 73. the very early sheaths had a smaller flap and sometime in the late 60's it became larger. handle straps before that. However, like all knives the date's are estimates.
Sheaths: A. Angeles Souvenir—late 1962 to late 1967. Thin leather, BUCK on snap, no rivets, no model number. B. Atcheson Leather—late 1967 to early 1969. Leather, BUCK on flap, Model #, tooling lines and dimple rivet on belt loop. C. Buck leather shop—started early 1969. 1) Leather, BUCK on snap & flap, tooling lines on belt loop. Used maybe 2 years? 2) Leather, BUCK on snap and flap, plain belt loop, model # on back."
Quote Originally Posted by David Martin View Post

Good information, Max. Sheaths with no numbers are older than I thought. Too bad you're not looking for a 119 sheath. Link

Tom you are correct, if I am reading everything correct, these knives were made between 67 and 72 so I could use sheaths with or without the Model numbers.
I would be happy to have either one or a mix of the three.
the hunt is ON.
thanks max
