Hello.. I'm just getting started in this new hobby. Can anyone help me identify about how old this knife is and if it's worth anything? Is there a resource online that gives info and approximate values of knives when I find them at sales and such?

Thanks!

Charlie,

Welcome to the Forum. What you have is a 7-4 Hunter- Fisherman in a Johnson Smoothback sheath approx 1990. Looks like its seen some share of use. Nice fingergrip stag on yours. I would keep using that one and enjoy it.

The knife is a Randall Model #7-4 1/2". The sheath is stamped 7-4, because the shop has no longer stamped the fractions on their sheaths no decades. The knife is no longer available with those nice finger grips..."but"...the whole knife could do with a "re-do", then it would be a fine knife.
You can send the knife to the Randall shop (or to me) and a quote will be given, which you have to authorize before the work would be completed. My guess is about $50 bucks...or so.
Hope this helps, Capt. Chris

Thanks for the info guys.. The guy I got this from said the knkfe was from the 70s and the shelth was newer, 90s. So the knife itself is from the 90s also? And when you said to go ahead and use it, I assume that means its not really collectible or worth anything:( Is the $50 what it would cost to fix it or it's present value?

The knife is not collectible, but if it were sent for cleaning, what you spent would probably make the knife worth that much more.

The knife looks older than the sheath and the price of $50 is the re-finish charges, plus shipping & insurance. The knife is worth a good bit more.

I am very interested in this knife. She looks like she has been neglected for the past 5 years.:( I miss her and would like to be reunited. This knife was a wonderful companion to me for over 15 years. A true testament to Randall knives.
