That is one cool looking knife ther is just somthing about pure white handles/scales that go me lately I have been trying to get me one of those Bark River knives with a white handle /scale only seen one so far that got me it is just a bit to expensive for my purse rite now hope one day to add a Bark River knife to my collection they really look like quality pieces no disrespect to our RANDALL MADE KNIVES but I do as we all probably digg others believe it or not I never even heard of a R.M.K. till the late nineties I was into folders only Buck Kershaw Gerber ....the usual suspects does anyone remember a flea market special (I call it)called a "007" wood scaled folder big ole huge thing it sold for 5 or ten bucks at the North Haven, Conn. flea market and other flea markets throughout Conn. in the seventies or so would like to have one again just for kicks....

Yes, I have the Stidham 1991 catalog and noticed the push dagger. A Randall expert told me he believes it was re-handled. There were problems with some of the knives. Some were documented as altered, others were not. That is why I decided not to bid and find out the hard way if it was legit.

Rod - Thanks for posting that photo. Very nice! #1 and #5 seem to be twins. How is your sheath marked on the back?

Thank you, Rod. Mine is marked the same way. I was so pleased to get mine in the auction sale. It's a great little knife.

Well, I began examining the Bearcamp more closely after photographing it and decided the handle looked suspiciously like plastic of some sort rather than Mammoth Ivory. I sent some close up photos to David Warther, an ivory expert, for his opinion, and he agreed the handle was an imitation ivory of some sort. To make a long story short, I returned the knife to the auction company and they refunded my purchase amount.

Below are the close-ups which do not display any of the end grain Shreger lines that is characteristic of all true ivories.

still a very nice knife! Since its not ivory it can be used and enjoyed knowing no animals were harmed in the process!

Were these knives made from 1/4" stock?

Jim - That must have been a great disappointment. Glad you got your money back.

The Bearcamp specials were originally Model 5's, and later Combat Companions. Both were the standard 1/4" thickness that Randall made these two models.

I must say, though, that a 30,000 plus year old mammoth tusk dug up out of the ground where the animal died of either natural causes, or predation, is not considered "harming" animals!
