Are there any options as far as the what material or combinations in the stack of the handle/grip on the Model 27? Thanks

Jerry, the options for a #25 handle on a #27 are exactly the same as for a regular model 25. The leather spacers are mandatory and can't be changed out for anything else. The center piece can be just about anything you can imagine: Stag, ironwood, walnut, rosewood, or Micarta from the shop, or just about any other piece of CW material you want (as long as you pay the extra set-up charge). I believe "polished" stag is still an option also, but this may have changed.

Cap or anyone else "in the know"; could I send in moose horn for handle material? Also, I once had the inside of a moose horn slabs that I had a local knife maker use and it sure came out nice looking. So if a round moose horn antler is not possible, what about slabs on a full tang, like a CDT? Thanks-

At one time one could use Moose antler as full handle material. A number of years ago I obtained a "Big Bear" Bowie with just such handle.

The piece of antler was selected by the late Tom Clinton for the original owner, from the antlers of an Alaskan "cousin" of mine. This was confirmed when I met Tom at the 2005 Blade Show. He remembered the knife and thought it was probably the only Randall ever made with Moose antler.

I'm sure Dirty Water can tell us more about the use of Moose past and present.

Moose, (the antler, not the man ) is no longer an option with RMK. Although this one turned out very nice, there are far too many problems with this material to continue to use it.

I kinda understand about the round version of moose horn, just like elk horn. But a slab version should work fine, similar to what Rudy Ruana did with with his knives. No problem with his elk horn slabs over the years, maybe 50 years without shrinkage. The shop uses other American wildlife horns such as buffalo and musk ox for rounds, but for slabs, I would think it could work. I am not an expert by any means on this subject, but still curious. Many thanks for the replys and info so far.

At this time, RMK does not install antler slabs on any of the current models.
