Hey Tom,

If you like trout and grayling fly fishing, you should come up here sometime. It is still pretty good. Do you ever get to the South Branch of the Ausable?

Cheers,

Alan

Maybe at some point when I retire. The last few years of kicking out Ford "ECOBOOST Trucks and Cars has kept me really busy.

The $400K (Jay Leno) type "ECOBOOST" Ford GT (SUPERCAR) projects keep a person young. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0X3yXa2jXeI

I really need to to do both places again at some point.

Tom,

You worked on that car-"ECOBOOST" Ford GT (SUPERCAR)!

That is one impressive car. Great job!

Actually a whole lot of people worked on the "Ecoboost" Ford GT (SUPERCAR)". Some history:

I did the FIRST design work on the prototype 3.5L Ecoboost engine (with a designer named Sherry Lopes) many years ago.
The 'Mule' test vehicle was a F-150 truck).

Eventually the 3.5L Ecoboost engine was actually installed in a F-150 production truck. We offer the Ecoboost engine in a lot of other vehicles today. To date Ford has sold over 3 million Ecoboost vehicles.

The 1.0L ECOBOOST engine was named the "International Engine of the Year" three times. http://www.autoblog.com/2014/06/26/ford-1-liter-international-engine-year-threepeat/

My job at Ford Research in North America, (Senior Engineer for Ecoboost projects), is to do initial work on all Ecoboost engine design programs.

I worked on the previous Ford GT too, during the design stage. It was a V-8 engine.

The new one is a lot faster and has a lot more HP. So I did not work on the CAR. I worked on the Ecoboost engine design.

Tom I have owned 2 Ford Expeditions and 3 Ford Explorer's. I liked the Explorer best of all. The Explorer comes with what I consider a fine engine and that is the reason I kept buying them. I have not purchased the new style Explorer and can't say anything about them. However, the old style vehicles came with less than adequate transmissions IMO. We had trouble with all 3. Can you explain that to me.
Thanks.

I am not a "Transmission Guy" (I could give you some bs excuse but will not do that). I do not follow the Warranty side of the game so I only know about the personal vehicles I drive. I personally have never had an issue with a transmission but I have never owned an Explorer either. In 38 years with Ford that is one problem I have not had.

Tom, I just took possession of a f150 with the 2.7 echo boost this thing hauls A! Just wondering some have told me that I may have made a error getting one so early in the production run as the bugs may not have been worked out as of yet. What is your feeling on this? I also have a F150 with a 3.5 that has been flawless is there enough crossover technology to make the 2.7 dependable and lasting?

Thanks for any info you may have.

Keep the transmissions serviced regularly, including changing of the fluid in the torque converter. If you pull ANYTHING, lock the overdrive out.
Transmission problems have been an issue with Ford for quite some time.
