I don't think I even know who you are but I assure you I am not feeling any loss. I can also assure you of this, I don't need any pointers on the state of the Randall market. Everything I said is fact. Period.

Plus one more thing, I didn't mention the Capt. at any point in my post. Why did you bring him into it as though he is at fault in some fashion? I talked about the loss of Rhett and the effect it had on knife collecting as a whole, not just Randall's, and you go off the cliff on some tangent that has nothing to to with anything.

This post started with mention of "dealers" it's all through the original post. Sharpi simply stated a "fact" Captain Chris is a dealer he works with and has done a FANTASTIC job of keeping our hobby going and growing.

did not see him mention any dealings with the Capt. All I saw was a snipe at "old collectors".

For me, if I had to worry about a 10, 20, or 30% fluctuation I'd question whether or not I should be collecting RMKs. It's a hobby to me, so enjoyment is what's most important. Making a stack of money would be nice too, but, enjoying my collection and the hobby are what I'm focused on now. I believe collectible firearms are doing well right now.

Was there a Randall on "Pawn Stars" or something?

Food for thought,

When I 1st got in it was a sellers market, big time!
6 years ago my wife & I adopted 2 children & when I went to sell most of my collection this had changed somewhat.
All in all I sold some at a loss, I sold some for even money, & some at a profit.
Point being if you sell the majority of your knives at a profit no matter how small & then have one that you thought would be all that
& not many share your opinion then it's gonna go for less at selling time.

I find that there are 3-4 times more collectors of the old knives than before. Which now that I'm back I'm loving grin
After being away for a bit then coming back I feel I have a better view on some of what's changed than the folks that have been here the whole time.
Kind of like seeing someone a few years later & they lost 20lbs. The person who sees them every day might not even see it because it was so gradual.

In a room full of resellers the only truly happy person is the collector! there are only 2 things that make me sell a knife I have.
!) My taste in models change, which is rare for me.
2) I think I have a cool idea for a knife & then it gets here & I'm like well damn!!! Then I get to listen to the Captain say "I told ya not to do it that way"

There used to be a guy that collected only Bear Bowies, David I can't remember his last name. He took up 3-4 tables at blade showing his collection.
He had some knives that were butt ugly! A design that went south he called it when I asked why don't you sell it? He said it's part of my collection.
I learned then there are different levels of collector.

I was not in the Randall world when it happened, but I recall a conversation with Tom Clinton at Blade Show one year as he told me about the downturn in in the 70's. Apparently, new knives were stacked on tables, still in the paper and being sold below shop price, by dealers...... Some dealers went under.

I offer this only as a longer view of the cycle. It comes, it goes.

I've been collecting Randalls since the early 90s and have the first one I ever bought. (not all I ever bought). and I know it is one of the few things I have that has held its value or appreciated. I have some that I know have appreciated a good bit (Randall Recon anybody?) and some that have pretty much just held their own. I collect them because I think they will always have some value and I collect them because it is a hobby that I enjoy. I actually think that overall they've been pretty good investments because the prices on them keep increasing, so as the Cap stated above "put a new Randall in a box under the bed and the purchase price of said Randall in another box and see which one appreciates over time." (I'm talking years here, not months)One could spend a whole lot more collecting certain things and have them become nearly worthless, but Randall knives ain't one of them.
