Thanks! If someone has a fishtail with 3/16th stock, that'll narrow it down to less than a 4 year window.

I have two fishtails, both bought from the Randall Shop in the 1980's (at different times). One measures 0.111 in. and the other measures between 0.112 and 0.113 in.

Apologies for the slight derail but on the fishtail handle thing -- I recently saw for sale a model 2-4 with what looked like a fish tail handle but rounded and not flattened on the sides. I believe it was an 80's knife or thereabouts. Is there such a thing as a rounded fishtail or is that considered to be a different handle style? Thanks for any thoughts/comments.

The rounded one (yellow micarta, I bet) was an early prototype, (if you mean rounded on the bottom) or at least never put in full production. There are others too, such as in the Green catalog.

My #24 with the all-red spacers was ordered in 2006 and shipped in 2011. I know that because the person I bought it from included the original paperwork with it.
I'm not real good at dating these knives, so I really don't know when the others were made.

I have made very few in decades of doing this. It's not that it's "not" doable, just seldom ordered. Good point!
