Rocky -

I have only seen one 14 with what was determined most likely to be a shop installed wood handle.

I've seen several that were done by Floyd Byrd & crew, but none shop-made. Could be? At any rate, ya' can't get it done.
Hope this helps, Capt. Chris

Want to add, this particular knife was a mid-50's vintage Orlando blade with the hump, the pattern for Solingen blades.

You saw multiple examples? Where and when did that take place?

Kind of surprising that no one had ever heard of one much less seen one until I brought this one to the shop. This had to have been 20 years ago I would think. Like the article said, it wasn't 100%, but all believed it to be shop work.

This knife was probably circa 1955-56.

I will add that I have seen a couple with wood, not something the shop would have and on later knives, and they were awful. Could have done a better job in jr high shop class and I sucked.

Floyd had just been "relieved of his duties" at the shop Joe. This would have been 20 years ago or so. I saw them at the Orlando show (when Pat Patterson still owned the show) at the fairgrounds and I just assumed they were completed by Floyd.
I also saw "2" being peddled at the Lakeland Gun & Knife Show (The old "Club Show") by the "raspy-throated guy"...Scott knows who I am talking about. That was at least a dozen years ago.
Best, Capt. Chris

Yeah, the one I saw was at lakeland, but it was obvious it wasn't done at the shop. Floyd while skilled, may not have been up to speed on what I saw if he was the one that did it. Like I said, it was pretty bad. I would venture to say that IF he was the one that did wood, it wasn't many.

Note, that was not the only handle material he added to 14's, 15's, and 16's. The light green "jade" micarta, he made a bunch of those. I saw him deliver a duffle bag full, maybe 20-25 pieces IIRC, to a guy when the Gator show was at the Holiday Inn in Plant City.

Same scenario was witnessed by me at the Melbourne show.
Go figure, Capt. Chris
