Captain:

Is it possible to pay the shop to remove the Top Quillon from an existing Randall?

Have a Model 1 that I would like to turn into a Model 5 so to speak.

If the Shop won't do it, will Mr. Behring do this kind of work?

Thanks.

Doug

Send it to me...I'll get it done. I have some work to send to James anyway. FYI (For "everyone"s" information) the Randall shop will not alter the knives, once completed. They are 4 years behind, 2(+) months behind on scheduled delivery time and they (quite simply) don't have the time.
Hope this helps, Capt. Chris

Sticking my nose where it does not belong, I would say yes. You can get a Model 7 with a 6 grind, so I would say you could get a Model 3. BUT I have been wrong, but not for the last 3 minutes.

After using Mitchell's search "tool" he talked about for this forum, I was wrong, wrong, wrong. Here is an answer the Capt stated a few years ago, with someone asking about a Model 3 with a 6 grind.

Mike,
Yes I have. Although they are not available at the present time, the Randall shop made them in the past. I don't know the exact amount, but it was certainly more than just one forging and went on for a period of time.
Best, Capt. Chris

Seems to me that it would have a similar grind as the new Filet model only a shorter blade. The grind on the filet looks the same as a #6 grind.

Everyone:
The grind on the large filet "is" a #6 grind...It's a Model #6! The name of this grind is derived from the carving knife, i.e. Model #6. Also the #6-4 1/2" steak knife. Model #3's, especially 6" ones were forged and finished with the #6 blade shape and grind. No more!
Currently, besides the catalog models which contain some form or fashion of this grind (#22 and #10's for a couple of good examples), the optional grind can be had on:
* Model #7 (either in 4 1/2" or 5" blade lengths)
* Model #4-6"
* and don't forget the non-catalog "Denmark Special".
Hope this helps, Capt. Chris

I am curious what the difference in current blade grind between #7-4 1/2"(with #6 grind); #6-4 1/2" and the Denmark Special blade grind are?

A SS 7-4 1/2 and 6-4 1/2 are the same blades...the 6-4 1/2 just designates it a reduced nickel silver hilt. The Denmark is just a bitter wider blade.

Just a thanks note to Captain and Buck on knife order #14 help. Change order official in hand.

Decide to use normal #1 hilt with less fat/small hand handle with CDT. Otherwise same. Stainless, nickel silver hilt, maroon micarta all black spacer and rounded nickel silver butt.

Was sad could not get black Model A from shop for this knife but Greg say he can do.

Still year and half to wait so no problem. Now to live that long.
