There has been much learned today, and soon, we will know even more. I asked Rip Westmoreland if, with his blessing, and the supervision of the curator of the SC Military Museum, that I might examine and photograph the knife. The Curator, and his staff went far above and beyond our expectations. First, they had to remove a half inch thick piece of plexiglass about 10 feet long and 7 feet tall to access the display. I'll let a couple of pictures take it from here. These are cellphone pics, but, as you can see, I invited someone to come do some more serious picture taking. So, soon the really GOOD pics will come out. These will have to do for now.

Great job, looking forward to some more photos and information. I see someone I recognize in the background, could it be Capt. Chris smile

I can add a couple of details, the knife is not personalized in any way. It is definitely a model 5, the pouch contains a white print combination crystalon stone, and the back of the sheath has no model number or blade length stamp, only the east facing logo is stamped on the back.

I'll be damned. It is a model #5. I went back to the other photos, no finger dip on the back of the spine.

Great work Wally! I know everyone is looking forward to the photos. Thanks Cap.

Too cool, Wally. I wonder how it came to be that he carried a Model 5 over the more common choice of a Model 1.

I believe (and, pending another conversation should be able to confirm) that it was a gift to the General. As soon as I know, everyone will know.

Wally, Great discovery. Model 5 6", Go figure a Model 5.....but it sounds like a red hot summertime build. Maybe with the Captains Bone Linen. A Westmoreland Build or as close as we can get to one with teeth.

No, the clip is not sharpened, not by the shop or later.
