Terrific! I can't wait for the "full" story in the RKCC newletter.

My thanks to all of you who gave up their time to explore this.

Wally,
Looking at the pictures I do not see any thumb
notches on the knife. Where there thumb notches?

Not all older Model 5's have thumb notches. I have a couple without them.
I asked Perry about this one time and he said that "some/a few/? had no thumb notches.

While some of old ones did and didn't "almost never" do you get thumb notches with a double hilt on "any" model.
Best, Capt. Chris
PS: I've got an old #5, single hilt in a custom Heiser with "no thumb notches"..."&" Rod Brown passed on it! (Just bustin' ya', buddy!)

This is really incredible. Wally you pulled off one superb job in running down the General's son and having the museum allow you guys to handle, fondle and photographic this extremely historic piece of Militaria! Your dedication to this hobby and to this club is highly commendable. Chris thanks for your effort as well. The photos are great and look forward to the news article and the rest of the photos.
Now we have another mission for you Wally. This time head north to the Point...West Point and do the same with General Jumpin Jim Gavin's Model 1. How incredibly cool would that be.
Again thank you guys for a job well done.

"Jumping Jim Gavin" of D-Day fame. He was the CO of the 82nd Airborne during "Operation Overlord". Unquestionably the most famous Paratrooper during WWII. He was the youngest CO to command a Division since the Civil War and was always the first to jump during an operation. Passed away in 1990 at the age of 82 from complications with Parkinson's disease.

Before I say for sure, I'll "google" some, but I thought he was the regimental commander of the 505th PIR then. I've certainly been wrong before.
