Here are a couple of recent Narwhal knives I have added.

One is a Tom Clinton Special 7" Narwhal; not sure how many other TC Special Narwhal's exist out there.

The best is the first RMK Narwhal Ivory knife made by the shop. It was inscribed with"Narwhal Ivory Bear Bowie# 001". I was told there were three knives in this series and the other was a Thorpe and the other unknown. If anyone can share any info. on this It would be appreciated.

Tom,

Jim Gates may be a good resource for information on Narwhal. That’s a fantastic pair of knives.

Tom that is very nice pieces of narwhal, usually the "twist" doesn't have such deep groves as the bear does.
The only narwhal with a flat plate that I have ever seen have came from Rick Bowles.
I wish that I had talked to him 1st about the ones that I did.
I would be curious to know how close the diameter of the bear is to the shop required size on CW.
Most of Jim's narwhal came from Dave Loomis & Doug Cream.
The flat butt plate saves on grinding the handle down like a cap does.

Although I have not done a great many (Maybe 2 dozen, over the years) I try to use butt plates as often as I can.
Best, Capt. Chris

Chief,

I think the shop gives a little leeway with Narwhal. The Cap did my Smith Heavy, Rick did the 30th Anniversary Set for the Skinner/Gambler and Doug Kennefick did the Sasquatch pair; and all had butt plates. All of these pieces were large except for Rick's pair; I was worried, but the shop did a great job preserving the size.

While the TC Special in Narwhal is unique, the butt cap caused the Narwhal to be shaped top & bottom amd took a lot away from that piece. Which was not deeply twisted.
