Capt. Chris--

IMO...nice colorful stag is very attractive as a "natural material" on a knife.

However...

If it is to be a working knife, smooth and comfortable is more desirable that the gnarly stuff.

The handle material should not be so "aggressive" on the hand that the user suffers any discomfort or possible injury from the pressure or rubbing of "bumps" against the hand.

If the surface of the handle is really aggressive, it doesn't take much use to get a blister or hot spots on your hand.

Also, if the knife is going to be carried on the belt, really large stag and crown stag handles can be awkward and uncomfortable.

However, if the knife is only going to be a safe queen, then none of the above applies.

Final thought. The shop does put out some very attractive stag with ample color and with surface textures that won't take the skin off your hand when you use them.

I know that what appeals to each person is subjective when it comes to stag. Just thought I would chime in so folks can give it some thought.

So far, not having concluded what the handle material will be, I don't think we have used any of our chargeable options. So I think I would ask for Thumb Notches.
