Reaching into the "wayback machine" to help clarify for those lurking in this thread...

If you order a model that defaults with thumb notches (like, say, Model 5) and add a double-hilt option, they will build your order without thumb notches.

This wasn't mentioned earlier (or I missed it, which happens).

Last weekend, Capt. Chris was showing off his latest #5 creation with NS2 option (and sparkling white handle!), the thumb notches were missing. I caught Scott out in the wild and he verified that they don't add them if it's a double hilt.

It makes sense...
.
AND, wouldn't it also save $5.00 (for brass version): increase $20 for double hilt, but decrease $25 for deleting notches?

Not really. On models with notches as standard, like the Model 5, the notches aren't costing you $25. So deleting them would just mean you pay the same price, I assume, but don't get the notches.

Then the shop theoretically saves an infinitesimal amount of labor for not having to file the notches, though I'm sure that's wiped out by the labor of shaping the second part of the hilt.

Yeah, I think it's already been established that the shop won't discount the price because you saved them some work. smile

For example, order a model 18 with ST/NST. They're not going to credit you $55 for saving them the effort of not cutting teeth.

Well, at least I tried!
.
(Can't remember what I paid for my ST-NST Model 18.)

Can a SFG along with teardrop handle be ordered today? I had this configuration on maroon 26 some years ago. Wishing I still had this one.

Never saw or heard of a SFG/Teardrop Warren. I think that handle is simply the way it was crafted at the time, i.e. just a bit more "cut".
Best, Capt. Chris

Wish I had a better view of the end. It had that teardrop shape. Here's a couple more different view. Sorry for the crappy pics, old stuff. Thanks Cap.
