Duke,

No optical sights on my 20 other than upgraded Tru-Glo day night sights. Ive looked at the G40 which is set up for the Modular Optic System (MOS), maybe someday looks nice. I primarily carry mine for woods close encounters.

I would like to get a Glock 20,but this state is a big no-no on a magazine holding more than 10 rounds.

I doubt if being retired LEO,they would allow it.

Yes,they make ten round mags for the Model 20 but why carry such a larger gun with a small magazine???

I am happy to see that you folks love your Model 20s. Darn good gun and an excellent caliber.

Wayne,

Sub Compact 29 in 10mm is still a 10 rounder in a smaller frame.

Warren,
Yes,I know that but I feel that the 10mm needs a longer bbl to get the full velocity to be effective.

I am just wondering if the recoil in the smaller 29 would be substaintial.

Right now I am working on getting a Henry Mares Leg in 22lr but the Model 29 now might hold some promise!!! That is what Ted Nugent prefers!!!!

Wayne,

Yes you're correct about the barrel length. The flash at night would be a problem for one. Might just stick with a 40S&W for nearly the same performance in a short tube.

Warren,
No thank you,no 40 Short and Weak for me. It was a collaboration between S&W and the FBI when the smaller agents could not handle the 10mm.

And they could not go back to the better 45 acp because they spent millions saying that it was not effective.

Think about it,the 40 S&W has to go to close to 35,000+ psi to accomplish almost what the 45 acp does loafing along at about 19,000 psi.

I will say now that you have sparked my interest in the Model 29 though.

The reason my 357 Sig drop-in has lived in my Glock 22 for the past few decades. Love that round in this weapon......reloads easily, has NEVER misfired/jammed once, shoots accurately & carries comfortably & easily.......IMHO

The 357 SIG round reminds me of the 38/44 Bain & Davis round that was developed in the mid 60s.

The 357 SIG is a very efficient cartridge and if memory serves me correctly is issued to the Maine Warden service or at least it was.
Very seldom will you experience feeding problems with a bottle neck cartridge.

And the VA State Police.....unless they switched. My #22 was issued to a County Sheriff's Office in Missouri........quite a while back.

One of my Maine Warden friends told me that he used his SIG in 357 SIG to bag coyotes when he was out and about.

I don't know what the distances were, but he said that they were one shot stops.

Checking out the ballistics,I would say that it is right up there with the 357 mag.
