So if an existing model already has 5 options, you can't send it in an add any more, is that right?

I'm not sure, but possibly options like thumb notches and wrist thong holes could be added after the fact. Maybe a compass also, depending on the handle. Just a guess here.

Pap,
You can have the shop add personal engraving after owning quite a while; did so for my daughter this last Christmas. BUT.....it had few options so the "5 limit rule" didn't come into play. AND, the happy Santas in the Randall Shop did a "rush job", just because Gary Randall's first letter to me said something like 6-8 weeks and I didn't ask them to hurry, just said she'd miss it in her stocking but would still be thrilled at the personalized "New Year's Randall".
What a kind bunch of folks to deal with!!

Capt, do you know if you can send a knife back to the shop to add a thong hole in a but cap and add a metal initial plate with initials to a iron wood handle, also adding engraving writing on the blade??

Hey Boardrider, The Captain can give the final on it but from what I know... #1 yes -I've done it, #2 90% yes - not done it but heard of it & #3 99% again not done it but heard of it! Good Luck with your upgrades! If the ironwood has finger grips, the initial playte may be an issue.

OK, Folks:
What everyone is asking, basically, is if the Randall shop will allow me to have more than 5 options on my knife. Is it OK to order (or purchase) a Randall knife, tricking it out or not, and then send it back for even "more".
The reason for a "5 option" limit is (and was) to allow the shop to produce a quality knife and work their way back to meeting their scheduled delivery time. It has taken over 5 years for them to accomplish this. Do you think they would like to backslide? I think not.
I have no doubt that incidents have (and will) occur when the Randall shop will accomodate a customer with special service or repair needs. That's a far cry from opening up the services and repairs to include adding this...or that. Surely you good folks can understand this. I hope this answers your questions and concerns.
Best, Capt. Chris

You can order a waxed sheath with a #10-3" but if you want an additional sheath, after your initial order, you will have to contact the shop, check on availability, and it will receive an "R" stamp indicating a replacement sheath.
Hope this helps, Capt. Chris
PS: Sheath options (on your initial order) do "not" count towards the "5" options on the knife itself...CCS

Capt, Can the drilled model #14 hilt be ordered on the large bowies? I would like to replicate the options on this Raymond Thorpe Bowie to a Confederate Bowie.

Yes they can...or at least the last time I requested one it was doable.
Best, Capt. Chris
