Rocky, if you think the CMP prices are high now get ready you will be seeing a major price increase from them. And by the way the condition of the guns is going down hill rapidly. You go there and look at the stuff it is pretty weak, and the special builds they have need more quality control. Sights not movable, safety's not working. Now back when you could get the DCM guns that was coming out of the arsenals and depots that was good stuff. No CMP for me and that includes the 45 deal that may be coming if congress does not stop it. They just found out about the 45's and a storm may be brewing. oldguy

Old Guy,
there's a model 70 on the cmp site now that has been bid up to 5k....from all that I know, there's not a 700 worth anywhere near that...there is nothing one can do to a 700 to make it worth 5k....I'm just say'n....I have a couple that have been "fixed up"
anyway, good for them...I'd be selling as many/much as I could on that site
:-)Rocky

The CMP has really changed,in my opinion ,not for the better.

I remember those days when 1911s went for about $25,Garands for about $50,forget about carbines.

Now to see used 1911s going for prices higher than the new items doesn't make it worth your tie and effort to try to get one.

They sell them "as is" with no guarantee. I would rather get a new one with the factory warranty.

The old DCM was for the shooters, the new CMP is more for the bucks.

Wayne, on the 45's you have to wonder if they will take them apart and mix and match like the carbines and M1's.

More than likely these 1911s from the DCMP will be a mix up or more likely a mismatch of parts.

You are probably way better off buying a new one at probably less cost.

At least you will have the factory to back it up with a warranty.

The guys at my VFW post want a GI 1911 until they saw the hoops and hurdles required for a DCM piece. They went and purchased a new gun instead.

They are other places to get a GI 45. Although they are pricey but with a lot less hassle.

oldguy,
I agree with you on that. Seems that there is much more of a hassle dealing with DCM then with days gone by.

Wayne,
If you go to the CMP forums then section
Ask CMP and look at the Sticky about the
1911's and the last post there where the chief
manager post about them. He says they will be
torn down, checked and test fired. It will be a mess
and a bunch of mix matched junk. oldguy

oldguy,
I have no real intention of getting a CMP anything. Too much of a hassle, not like years ago.

The last item I got from CMP was a "woodless Garand". Was not too bad and getting new wood for it was no problem. Bore was a bit murky and first test fire showed that the clip retainer spring need replacement. After that, all went well.
