Wayne, I’m a reloader. I think you can get ammo online, doubt big box stores carry it. It’s a classic round and was the first commercial 3000 fps.
I get close to 2900 with 100 gr Nosler. It drops deer much better than it should.
Of course, my next favorite is 257 Roberts. I like old stuff....like me

Marty,
If memory serves me correctly, the writer,Col Charles Askins Jr used a Savage Model 99 in that caliber almost exclusively.

The 257 Roberts again,is another classic.

I cannot figure out why the companies "invent" new calibers when the classics do the same job??

Marketing I guess.

Both the .257 Roberts and .25-06 were "standardized" by Remington, just 35yrs apart.

I would guess that Remington wanted to get their name on the popular wildcats of the time.

Popular name for size was "quarter- bore". Picked up a .257 WBY a few years ago, a bargain at the time. Still waiting for the right hunt, away from here hopefully.

My all time "want to have" is the .257 Weatherby. I settled on the poor man's version, the 25-06.

About the same recoil as my .308 Pap. I have mine +1.5" at 100 yds. Flat out shooter to 400 plus without holdover.
Nosler Accubond 110gr would be my go to.

Yep, I like the 120 grain only for the long distance shot. Up to 250 yards, would be the bomb. After that , the 7mm mag with the 165gr Nosler Partition is my choice. 63 grains of 4350, a tack driver.

120's have a bad rap. They don't group well, mine included.

Pappy,
Nothing wrong with the 25-06. It was "legitimized" back in the 70s if memory serves me correctly.
