Bruce that long lower hilt looks very cool. That is one good looking 50's knife and the Korean era knives are few and far between these days! Glad you like it......:)

For one the throat of the sheath would be wider if it was Korean War vintage.
Still a very nice knife....one that could have easily been carried in Nam.

Korean War was "over" by mid- 1953. I think the sheath is a bit late for that. Five equal spacers is mid-50's all the way. Looks to have an acorn nut also.

Here are two Korean era pieces. Note the three thick two thin spacer arrangement. thanks to Tune for photos.

Flared throats on model #1's were not so much an early 50's trait. I have seen later 50's knives with wide throats. This is a brass nut, wide flap, early 50's knife.... pretty straight.

Pretty knife, huh Burnie???? cool

Again thanks to Tune, here is a mid-50s knife with the five medium spacers like Bruce's knife, basically the same knife as his.

My interest in early #1s was greatly stimulated by the extensive discussion of Heiser/HKL/Johnson sheaths in this forum a few months ago. I decided to find examples of these knives with their representative sheaths. Mitchell and Burnie have been very helpful in this and I had a great discussion with Joe (Crutchtip) when I met him in person for the first time at Blade this year.
Thanks, guys!
