Ok all you "po' boys" (& Girl),
We're going to build a Denmark Special. Here's some particulars you may find interesting and/or helpful.
Denmark Sporting Goods was a staple in the Orlando, Fl. market for decades. In the days prior to big box stores and well before Al Gore invented the internet, Denmarks was the place to go for hunting and fishing gear. I know (and so does Mike Mason) first hand, how fully-equipped Denmarks was.
I managed Kleisers Sports Shop in West Palm Beach, Florida for a decade in the late 1970's- the late 1980's. Bob Kleiser first opened his store on 1935! That's right, "prior" to the existence of Randall Made Knives! We were an authorized "Orvis" shop and carried the very finest hunting and fishing equipment in the Southeastern United States. Through Orvis, I got my introduction to John Newell (Orvis shop in Winter Park, Fl.) and Walter Hudson @ Denmarks!
Both of these very fine stores, although not offering as much product as Kleisers, were known for "the place to go" in Central Florida for your every need, with regards to hunting and fishing! Both Bo & Gary Randall did business with these stores and "both" of these stores were Randall dealers at the time.
I'll show a couple of examples of their Randall "Dealer Specials" as this build continues. While John Newell's Orvis shop stuck with his initial choice for a dealer's knife, Denmarks underwent several "drafts", if you will, before deciding on the knife we all know today!
The RKS's 2nd "Club Knife" was a similar version to the finalized Denmark Special, which had been retired with the closing of Denmarks Sporting Goods. After the RKS "Club Knife" was completed and all orders were filled, The Denmark Special was re-introduced by the Randall shop as one their "non-catalog" offerings where it still resides today!
Standard equipment of today's Denmark Special includes the following:
* Hand forged carbon steel blade
* 01 tool steel used
* 4 1/2" blade length
* 3/16" blade stock
* #6 blade grind
* Brass single hilt
* Red, white & blue spacers
* Sambar stag handle
* Model B sheath, in tan leather
* No hone sheath
Current catalog price is: $380.00, well under our $500.00 pricing ceiling! The #6 blade grind makes for an excellent filet and kitchen knife as well as great companion knife in the woods! You folks picked a good example for a build!
Options? Many are available. Let's hear from all ya'll...I've said enough! (But I hope it helped)...
Stay sharp, Capt. Chris
