There's a family-run "puppy ranch" nearby (west of Anna, TX) where the dogs have about an acre (give or take) of "back yard" (with a small rock-bottom pond) to run around. They are constantly supervised and the human generally has a camera, so about 100 pics a day gets posted on their website.
Your pooch has to be "interviewed" before you can enlist their services, they want to see how well it behaves with "the pack."
Overall it's like a puppy vacation. They get to spend the day doing what they want with other critters. Very different experience from what you'd get with your traditional kennel.

I bet that Ol Jake would lay in your lap while you watch the Football Game.

Going back and thinking about these two, you could predict their next move, almost robotic like. After some time they became somewhat programmed behavior. A gesture or a word would be enough. Chester, our Golden Retriever was really intelligent but he he didn't like loud noise. In a thunder storm he would dig a hole to China in the bathtub
You'all have such great Dogs. My Son-in-law lost his Hound Dog Remy this past month. He was 9 and loved the woods also. Here is my retirement buddy(Shiloh), got him right after I pastured myself. He is 8 now and tops out a whopping 15 pounds.
