I prefer nickel squared hilts.
Also, prefer stag, wrist thongs and all solid or red/ black & aluminum spacers

Just for talking purposes. This one has 6 chargeable options plus a squared hilt.

Nice knife Warren..."BUT"...squared hilts get in my way and, unless being used on a Divers (to protect your gloved hand from slipping down off of the handle), serves no purpose for "my intended use" of these 2 knives. The squared top is "corner-sharp" and makes my tasks less comfortable, which is why mine sport the (now standard) more rounded top hilt.
I've said it oh too many times: I don't care what we build, however...these builds are not just all about the "build" but for educational purposes as well. I love squared tops and a 6 inch Model #5 and it has a justifiable reason for being installed on one. 5 inch blades, a blade length for more "close-in" quarters work? Not so much...for "ME" anyway. Your mileage may vary.
Best, Capt. Chris

I see that the two that Capt. Chris uses don't have wrist thongs.

Sometimes a wrist thong on a user can get in the way.

And in some situations you might want to discard a knife and not have it dangling off your wrist.

If it is to be stag, maybe go for color over popcorn texture...rough stag can be hard on the hands.

If we want to improve the grip for wet work, then maybe FGs.

Also, for a couple of working knives, I don't think they need a compass. Most of us would know where we are and where we are going, and have other navigation aids that are better at getting us back where we want to go.

Just a thought...

Larry

Larry,

Nobody said you have to use the lanyard. I had a few nights searching for a blade when dressing an animal. Wish I had one at the time. I agree at times they do get in the way.

As a hunting and fishing guide, I personally would hate to use a knife without a wrist thong. Probably not a big deal with whitetail deer, but elk and moose are a whole different story. And for cleaning fish, the WT is a must for me. To each their own, but I think the WT is a valid option. If you don't want to use it, then take off the para cord.
