Jack,
Nice 14. A new acquisition? Anything on the inscription plate?
Tony

No inscription, at least not yet. The knife is in excellent condition... as is the sheath, though it has been worn some. This at least allows me to have a knife for each son.

Question - if I have something inscribed on the plate, can the plate be changed out later without destruction? Regards... Jack

It cannot. The initials can be removed and the plate re-etched...but that's it!
Hope this helps, Capt. Chris

Another Q capt. I think I remember seeing a RMK with an inscription plate back in about 1966 at Ft. Bragg, but only the model 14. Approximately when did this option become available and did other models offer this option?

I've been looking at a lot of old Randalls lately (kinda becomes a habit doesn't it?), but the plate doesn't seem to have been that popular. Can you still get a knife with this plate?

The plate is expoxied into the handle. It has been around for decades. Often overlooked, because of the 5 option limit (and blade etching available with more characters offered), the name plate is a nice addition to the handle, especially if it is engraved with artwork instead of initials! Hope this helps.
Best, Capt. Chris

Hi :-)
If the plate is epoxied it's not so hard to remove it. Warm air pistol will do the job easily.

You may be correct but I was told by the shop..."It's in there", indicating the handle would be damaged if any attempt was made to remove it. Perhaps it's dadoed in as well. Whatever: I would not attempt to remove it, especially if I was considering re-using it without checking with the Randall shop first.
Best, Capt. Chris
