Wayne, I know just what you mean. We have a gun shop outdoor range not far from us with standing stalls for pistol (7 and 15 yds) and benches for rifles at 50 and 100.

I wouldn't even shoot my 300win there. It's just poor form - (the percussion noise). I only shoot it at the training center range I belong to. I do shoot it at the 100 - 300 yd range while sighting in as well as the 500 - 1000 yd range, but even there, I'm never the only one shooting a high-power magnum.

When I first got the scope mounted, I took it a few times to the empty, or near empty, state 100 yd sight-in range - a real jewel in this county. (But that range is set up real nice - roof, walled bays, openings with overhangs - and side blast is never an issue - just noise).

But it seems regularly, at this gun shop range, someone is shooting a 50cal or a high-power magnum. Even when using the pistol range 20 yds away, I find it so annoying I want to pack up.

People shoot long guns that they own in pistol ranges because they fear looking like they can't shoot.
This is by no means a .50 cal, but to post up next to other people & shot would be obnoxious.

Escapement,
At our outdoor range, folks that have muzzlebrakes etc are sent down to the far end so not to bother other shooters with the muzzle blast.

It can be quite distracting even though you are required to wear hearing protection.

Chief!!!
I was thinking about you last weekend when I FINALLY made my SCAR purchase!!! It's my first, however I'd now, like to get the .223 version, as well as the "20"...I can, for only $1,499,00 get a 20" barrel for the 17...anyway this is in reference to the thread about the Orlando Knife show...this is where my money lately, has been going. I truly believe that "universal" background checks are coming...if not now, certainly after Trump is gone....get um while you can....and I am!! We have a great site here, in the area, where normal, regular folks can trade/sell guns without all the paperwork evolved dealing with an FFL. I'm making the best of it, while I can!!
Oh...in sticking with the theme of this thread...I'm a .308 kind of guy.....for a while, anyway!!

Rocky, I love mine.......just in case you haven't already, better get some extra mags for it. They will try to regulate them as well.
As for a universal background it's one of the reasons I got a concealed carry permit.
What ya thinking on optics or are you staying with the iron?
I got a night-force for my going blind ass.
As for .223 I'm more of a 5.56 guy. Been looking at the Sig Rattler in that instead of the 300 blackout.

To stay "on thread" as a .308 guy....Chief I'm setting this gun up as a hog kill'n machine!! The scope I'm most interested in is the 1X8....Leupold makes one but's just too expensive for me!! Trijicon has one that's more in my price line....might drop down to the 1X6....for the money....anyway that's where it's heading....with a 16' barrel it's not going to be much for extended ranges....the darn QD swivels cost me $80!!! every thing about this gun is expensive...as for Magazines....I had already bought 8-20 rounders as a preemptive move...then the gun came with 14 more....so, I'm pretty well set for magazines....BUT you are dead on, on the magazine comment...that will also be an easy target for them!!! I have, as a result, been buying any high capacity magazines that I have guns for...I have a case full of AR mags...as well as Ruger 30-rounders....any gun of mine that takes higher than 10 rounds....I have many extra magazines for!!!
These are some of the extra magazines...

:-)Rocky

Do we have to pick one caliber?

I cycled back through this thread and saw Warren's T/C Contender so here is my favorite Contender.
