I agree, the Alaskan is pretty comfortable for me to shoot. I’ve had all sorts of big bores up to the .454 Casull in a Freedom Arms 83. The .454 in a 6” is a real heavy hitter on both ends.

I can’t handle heavy recoil anymore and wouldn’t feel undergunnned by any means with a .44 Magnum with good hard cast loads. A 310 grain hard cast at 1100 fps will punch a hole through both sides of a big boar.

Shoot,

That basically is what campfires are for...discussion for the sake of................discussion.

JB,
Yep,I like the heavy bruisers too but now being that old age has started to show its ugly head,I seem more content to do my range sessions with 22s and my high end air rifles.

And yes, every so often,I break out the heavy stuff just to let me know that I am alive......and take it!!!!

Coach,
It is amazing how many problems are discussed and solved over the campfire.

Seems to be the tradition spans back many centuries.

Tensions eased and relaxed and problems solved.

Wayne:

You right!!!!

And then, there are times when I like to sit out there by myself.

Or,, with my dogs!

Coach,
Sitting out alone with the dogs helps you "contemplate" things much better. Plus, the dogs seem to provide better answers...........

There isn't a dog that I have not liked....but as for humans the less said the better.

Also,I have never met a dumb dog but again...as for humans.

Just look at the news (I don't).

My dogs were never trained hunting dogs, they were my companions in field & stream.

They could spot game long before me. I just watched their body language and followed their lead.

I'm not too sure about dumb dog statement...
My brother had a Gordan Setter....it was, with out a doubt, the stupidest thing I ever encountered in my life...at the lake...I cannot remember how many times that dog fell off the dock....just walking around...knocked over the grill at hunting camp...with food in it...it was just plain stupid!!

My two are 100lb. Bloodhounds.

They both like to get up into my lap at the same time which knocks me over and then they both want to snuggle up to me and lick me til I'm about to drown.

After 15-20 minutes, they settle down and are content to sit there with my arms around each.

They look right at me when I talk and I'm sure that there are some words they definitely understand like: treat, Mama, kitty, sic 'em, and come here.
