Somewhere between 1911 and today the military opted for the "flap-over" holsters that required the hammer to be down.

Great example of government reducing safety under the guise of "safety."

Windsor,
If you think that the Gov't will take care of you, take a good look at how they care for the American Indian.

In 'Nam,somehow the top flap of the 1911 holster kinda got cut. Oh,and yeah, they were carried cocked and locked with one round in the chamber and 7 in the mag.

POS M-16s were pretty much sidelined for AK-47s that were "acquired".

Chief and everyone,
Colt also did a series "Commanding Officer's Models" which had shorter barrel and full length receivers to accommodate standard mags. Many were mfg. in 38 Super as well, giving you more firepower!
Hope this helps: Look up Colt's "El General"...and (of course) "El Capitan" for examples...
S
Best, Capt. Chris

If memory serves me correctly, the entire 1911 function was tweaked, to include "flared" muzzle ends on the barrels...(Belled, if you will). They came in bright blue, bright stainless and (perhaps) other finishes. Quite unique. The reasoning for the "El" denotations was on account of the propinquity of South American countries usage of 1911's "and" 38 super.
Hope this helps,
Stay Sharp, Capt. Chris

One of my most pleasant to carry 24-7, ALWAYS shoots everything I load, 13 (12+1) rounds of security for my family, all around me needing protection, AND myself, BOTH physically and mentally well provided for. This P-12 has provided all of these things since coming to live with me approximately 1993 or so.
A happy and well blessed Independence Day to all.

I can’t add one here under “HANDGUNS” without including the one that truly took my own hand loading to another level AND put me into the woods as a serious handgun hunter for the last 30+ years.
I’m certain that the reason that I purchased this particular S&W was directly related to my purchase of the Speer Reloader Manual, #12 and the pictures & story by Layne Simpson re: Alaska caribou (&/or moose) hunting. That and the 7 weeks too early birth of my first born daughter who arrived along with the knowledge that not only would I need to unpack the truck for my 4 week mobile camp, early bow & black powder season adventure. And instead plan to spend lots more time closer to home for the very premie first child adventure.
This particular S&W 629 has only fired my hand loads…..EVER. And the same 44 Mag load goes into my Marlin lever action, Ruger (first made) semiauto, Ruger Flat Top single six, and TC Contender. One of the many nice things about carrying both the lever action rifle and six gun in the late 1800’s (& now) was being able to load and carry the same caliber. Of course one can load different weight/powder rounds but “Why?”…… unless there’s good reason.

Walker,
Yep,the Capt. is THE man.
Scrolling up to Dukes lots of shots 1911 brought back memories when I tested the first ones for the magazine. Worked well back then and obviously still do.

My carry favorite is a Glock 36/45 acp (6+1) with ball amoo.

I used to use a Model 43 for Church security but then switched over to the 36 which is only slightly larger.

Just found out that the Pastor in my Church packs heat too,so I guess I am in good company.
