Coach,
Glad to hear that all is working out OK.

Now for the ammo,do you reload??? If not, maybe you should start.

I haven't used factory ammo since 1958.

I reloaded for years back in the 70s,80s, and early 90s. Had a killer load for 30.06. Also had a killer 12 ga. for quail and another for ducks. Had a couple fine 20 ga. loads for squirrels and doves.

During one of our many coaching moves, and with 4 little kids running around the house, my Bride appealed to me to get rid of all of the gunpowder. I obliged her with the intent of getting back into it at a later date with an upgraded system.

I just haven’t done it yet. You are right. I need to look into it.

Coach,
I hope that you can get back into that game soon.

Years ago,I used to have my grand daughters (now in their late 40s) help in the shop.

One could crank out 300+ rounds an hour out my Dillion Square Deal B.

Coach,
That's great, now let us hear how a range session goes.

If you were not able to obtain an Alaskan in your area,I would have sold you mine (far less price) and did a dealer transfer for you.

You will find that recoil is not bad at all with those hand filling grips.

I got my new Ruger Alaskan in .44 Magnum on Tuesday and some ammo on Friday.

I put 6 through it on Saturday. It is certainly different from a .357 and/or .45 acp, although the recoil is manageable.

LOUD doesn’t even begin to describe the report as I had all my “neighbors” texting and wanting to know what in the hell was I shooting?

Keep in mind, my “neighbors” are all 3/4 mile to 1 1/2 miles away.

I was shooting 240 grain factory Winchester. I feel like it would definitely take down a big hog that I might surprise at close range.

Coach, I believe it will do the job on a hog for sure. I’m sure we will see a small pig on the smoker soon!

Coach--

On a Tennessee boar hunt some years ago, my friend insisted on hunting with a .41 Magnum. (I don't know if it is still going on, but there was a bit of side-taking re: .41 versus .44 at the time, and my friend had made his choice.)

He shot a hog from the side at close range, but it started to run away until the guide shot it with his rifle.

I suspect that ammo is much improved by now, but think that his shot placement is what failed to drop it.

Larry,
Years ago,I knew of one Secret Service Agent that packed two S&W Model 58s to protect the President.

That was then,probably different now.

And yes,the argument still goes on about the 44 vs 41 as well as 9mm vs 45acp.

Probably around some deer camp fires the argument still goes on about the 30-30 vs the 32 Winchester Special.
