This is a Model 1 with a handle of stabilized Spalted Maple and nickel silver hardware. Spalting is the result of fungal attack and the tree responds to it by creating barriers that result in black lines and interesting wood patterns. Maple shows this characteristic better than most wood. The spalted wood is usually stabilized since the fungal attack may result in the wood being too soft for knife handles.
