The weather is fantastic. We decided to go on a backwoods drive on the dirt roads of East Texas. One of my favorite drives is an eighty-mile round trip where you can see more cows and horses than houses or cars.

I have driven this route many times and have never seen what is in the photo below. The power company cut a right of way and exposed this.

That's cool. Is any of that family still around?

Hey, Mr. Burrow died on my Wedding Anniversary date, albeit 102 years earlier.

Not sure. The grave is three miles from the small town of Overton, population 2,500, that was platted in 1873, 16 years after Mr. Burrow passed.

According to Wikipedia (if you believe it I will), the area that is now Overton was known to Choctaws/Chickasaws/Creeks who lived in the area and still do, as Tiyuk Hekia (Standing Pine).

The pine part I do believe. Overton is located behind the Pine Curtain.

I thought the Cado and Kickapoo tribes were the prominent tribes in East Texas/ western Louisiana.

Here is an interesting read on the Cherokees that were located in the vicinity of Overton (maybe a little further south) back in the 1830s.

Mr. Burrow may have encountered them.

They were driven out of Texas by the Republic of Texas Army in 1839 and ironically, Chief Bowles was killed with the very sabre that Sam Houston had given him as a gift.

Tom,
I teach math & physics.

I just have been interested in Texas History all my life. I owe that to my Dad who used to read extensively about it. He was the genealogy expert of the family and had all of the old family Bibles.

We had kinfolks at San Jacinto and others that came with Stephen F Austin. My brother knows all their names and where they are buried.

Growing up, all of our vacations were to places in Texas. The Alamo, San Jacinto, Monument Hill in LaGrange, and various battlegrounds were amongst the destinations we visited.

There is a LOT of interesting facts in Texas History.

Hottest day of the year here in Garden Valley, Idaho, now 101, but 11% humidity. After the sun goes behind our Garden Mountain, it will drop to the 50's, and tomorrow is supposed to be much cooler.

I was coming back to Garden Valley from Boise on Hwy 55, came around one corner to find 100 yards of brush fire. Two fellows were trying to stomp it out, but no way, too steep, and away it went. Now is 2k acres and power has been out since 2am, 5 power poles burned. Estimated 1030pm service restored. I have the generator going. Fire caused by an overloaded trailer, tire blew and rim/pavement caused sparks and fire. I wouldn't want to be in his shoes. Not only the cost of the fire but businesses out lots w/o customers and ruined food.
