Windsor,
If I may suggest,don't rebuild that iconic piece!!!!!!! It is perfect the way it is.

Reminds me of years ago,guys would "rebuild " their cars with all sorts of stuff. The last item they then put on it was;

A For Sale sign.

That 1911 will work just fine the way JMB designed it. No need for any fancy ammo,just plain old FMJ which has a perfect track record.

I wasn't planning on it, I meant that the barrel is parkerized outside *and* inside, indicating that it's been rebuilt before.

I have no plans to rebuild the gun other than maybe figuring out how to remove the park inside the barrel. Other than the inside park, it's a good HS barrel.

Windsor,
Probably if you just gently scrub the barrel with a bronze brush and solvent,it will reduce some of the parkerization.

Then shoot it as you normally would. When the gun was rebuilt and parkerized,I am sure that the armorers knew that the finish would not be harmful to the barrel.

Here's my S&W 317 AirLite 22LR and Sullivan's slip on holster from 1998. They aren't making the 317 anymore. Great little carry revolver.

Pap:

That's a neat little .22. I bet it has filled some cans full of holes over the years.

Not just cans Coach, but lots of forest grouse as well. Too bad it didn't come in 22mag or I would have one.

Pap,
Contact S&W and see if they would fit a 22 mag cylinder to it.

I did that with my Charter Arms Pathfinder. Now I have two cylinders for it and it only takes about two minutes to convert.
