Handguns. S&W 686.
Taking this one to the next gun show in the original box. The only thing that's not original is the Mag-Na-Port. Does that help or hurt the value? Btw, it's never been fired since I received it about 30 years ago.

That's a very nice revolver you have there. If we were in same state I'd buy it from you. I have one very similar. Mine is a 629 and has the quad magnaport. True collectors say it detracts from the value since it's not original, but for a shooting range/woods carry/concealed carry, it doesn't effect value. You'll just have to find someone who appreciates it to get top value!

Very nice indeed. You should get plenty of interest. I have a 1999 Lew Horton 625-7. Bought faux Ivory grips for it so the original Rosewood doesn't get dinged.

Tom,
My suggestion is DON'T SELL IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That looks like one of those pieces that when you sell it,you wish you hadn"t.

Looks like it wants to be fired.............lots.

I have one very similar but with two ports. If I remember correctly it was a Lew Horton Special. Shooting full power .44 mag feels like shooting .44 special.

I had a 29-4 with Magnaport and it did cut down on the recoil, but not the noise. Shooting with muffs at a range is one thing, but in the woods taking a pot shot, you'll be deaf for a week. I can't imagine how loud the 460 and 500's are.

I have never been a fan of "any kind" of porting. The noise far outweighs the "comfort factor" achieved and, for me anyway, kills the resale.
I have a 3 inch S&W 686.."7" shot and I love to shoot it. No real recoil for my hands anyway.
Best, Capt. Chris
PS My "Hill Country" came with a screw-on muzzle break. The day I got it, I sent it down to riflesmith, Bruce Dow, and had a screw on muzzle "protector" made. Worked to:
A) Protect the exposed threads
B) Allow you to set the rifle "on" the muzzle with no wear or impact
of group
C) Get rid of the damned muzzle break!

Capt,
Like anything, there are pros and cons for porting.

I have several pieces ported but as for muzzldebrakes, forget it.

Maybe they make be good for the shooter but for others to the left and right on the firing line.......not good at all.

At our outdoor range,we put those with muzzle brakes....way down the end.

You have to have range time with any weapon but range time is not the reason for porting.
