I omitted another choice when listing knife models earlier: RMK Model #11-4", which is 3/16" blade stock...sorry Brother Billy and Tom.

Maybe the Model 5 small fish & game set up like Bradford Agier's in the larger model with the Micarta handle w/compass??

In all honesty,it is what you choose will be the best. That is why there are so many Models/variations.

Awrite, lemmie see, Capt. Chris, you’ve omitted the model #11’s (3/16” bunch) by NOT listing them with those other outstanding possible choices so far. You didn’t shut down the “maybe 2 like you” feelers though so I’m thinking that your SSP, just like I’ve suggested, is # 1 on the list AND, to handle all camp chores PLUS every big boned, gristled-up critter alive I’d like to throw in a #12-9” for “By GOD Hunt’n Knife” # 2……to crush pelvises, quarter anything, etc. etc. All dressed out like:
-SS,
-a special chunk of Stag,
-NS, single Hilt,
-Compass
WHOOO-WHEEE!!!
I am so ready to win these and get to packing,
BTW….the boys here (VA) are rut crazy blind from late Oct. thru early Dec. The deer too.

Ken,
One of the many reasons I like about the old style Model 8 is how it came into being.

It was basically the design thought up by BO's friend Litch Stienman.and BO made some refinements as to what we now know as the old Model 8.

And,I could be wrong on this,it was Litch Stienman that was using a custom knife that BO purchased from him that got the ball rolling on Randall Made Knives.

My only problem with the old style Model 8, is the reduced hilt. Too easy for your hand to slip by the reduced hilt and slice a finger. Had that happen to me in my 20's, not on a Randall, but a similar reduced hilt, and made me cautious ever since. I believe that a Model 7-4.5 has a very close blade design as the old Model 8, but has a full single hilt. Just sayin'.

Pap,
I can see your concern about the reduced hilt but I think that thumb notches may help in reducing the tendency to slip.

Maybe if you wrap the wrist thong around your hand would prevent a slip??

Just a thought.
