I just got off the phone with Scott. We both agree that we don't "think" "Old Styles" are available in leather. I'll check with Valerie when I return from the Tenn. knife show. I recall #21's in leather but Scott doesn't remember that either. Sorry to be vague, but I'll get an answer soon. Standard #8-4's are definately available in leather.
Best, Capt. Chris

You have room to change your specs to "CW". The shop will charge you ($30-$35) to change the order...but it's doable.
Best, Capt. Chris
PS: You know, I hope, the material needs to be slotted and cut to "exact" size by you. The shop will not do it...CCS

capt. chris,
i want the 14 that is on order to have the same handle material as the 15 i sent you pictures of (i would post a picture here, but i don't know how to resize it under 100k). i bought the 15 second hand, not through the shop/dealer. how do i go about finding that material and what are the specifics for the size and slot?
again, thanks for your time.

Re-send me the photo and I'll try and post it. Contact Jim Behring (Treemen Knives) and see if he has some of the material. He has the proper dimensions. If it isn't green/black you'll have to send me the knife so I can research it and try and find the stuff.
Best, Capt. Chris

I guess this forum has pretty much taken the place of the "Randall Shop News Watch here for shop news and announcements. Got any shop questions?"

So here goes.

Why no #22 crow's beak but cap available in nickel silver?

Tom,

I believe it's because the NS is just too hard and time consuming to grind down and shape into the Crows Beak shape.

At least that's what I was told somewhere along the road.

Size, labor and expense...Nickel silver butt caps are very hard, very hard to work with and shape and the stock required to shape a crow's beak is fairly expensive. The "labor" issue is as much of a factor as the cost. Jed (production foreman) gives me crap all the time for nickel silver collar orders. That's why I don't do a lot of 'em.

On a carving set.....if you order different material handle, buttplates, spacers, etc., do you pay the additional cost times three to cover the knife, fork and sharpening steel?

Thx
