Thanks for the help all, that's one less question for Valerie. Its too bad about the limited options on the guardian. I did see one recently with a thong hole but don't know the vintage. I was wanting one with Brass reduced hilt and smooth brass collar, green micarta commando handle, brass name plate and domed brass butt. It may have been overkill anyway..

What is the difference between a rounded butt cap and a radiused butt cap? I have seen some butt caps that have the edge rounded slightly and other caps that are really rounded off alot. What do I need to tell the shop on my order to get each style?

"Really" rounded are probably "domed" butt caps. They are usually found when a butt cap is added to a "concaved" handle.
Hope this helps, Capt. Chris

What would be the best way to word my order so that I get the smallest possible radius on the Brass Butt Cap of a Bear Bowie I will be ordering next? I don't want to completely get rid of the way it flairs out on the end of the commando handle, but just roll over (break) the edge a bit.

Rob, I asked GTR this exact question a couple of months ago. His response? "Just order a rounded butt cap - that's pretty much what you'll get by default on that particular knife." Hope this helps.

Hey Guys,
These Randalls ... a #25 and #26 have ROUNDED butt caps. I got these through the Captain about a year ago.

Here are 2 identical "Commando" shaped handles. The duralumin butt cap is in the standard configuration while the brass is rounded.
Best, Capt. Chris

I was using the word "radiused" from reading Lunde's FAQ site. I guess I was thinking "rounded" would be closer to the "domed" look I want to avoid for this knife. But, I had a notation on my wish list to have it look like the Stanaback Special, Ltd. II, or that #2-6 above on the Capt.'s website. They still retain the flair out from the commando handle shape somewhat. I see now they are referred to as "rounded" too.

So, I guess "rounded" and "radiused" are actually interchangeable terms at Randall giving the same result?

Either of the "R" words are acceptable and interchanged by me...and lots of others.
Best, Capt. Chris
SSP-4" (Not a Limited II) with a "rounded or radioused" brass butt bap. The only way you'll get a domed is with concaved handle...CCS

On micarta handles I hear the term "teardrop", does any one have pictures showing teardrop and whatever a non teardrop handle is? Thanks OldGuy
