Sheldon,
I agree I would like to see some of the history and reasons why these knives are special and deserve some special consideration and additional information. Just thinking out loud, hopefully not to loud.

Frank, I had to go way back to the top of the thread to see why you were responding to Sheldon. This must be what you were responding to.

Nice knives guys, but, I've just gotta ask...are the 'Model of the Week' threads supposed to be an informative series of knife examples whereby the new collector learns to differientiate knives by era according to specific characteristics - or, is it just intended to be a 'see my pretty knife' thread?

My response would be "both".
I get much out of looking at Randall Made Knives posted here by our members (and non-members). I also like to review the introduction posted by Kevin at the top of each thread.
I have looked at the knife of the week threads on other forums and ours does not take back seat to any.
So Frank, please enjoy our forum and please feel free to contribute by posting some Randall Made Knife history or just show us your pretty knife!

Frank, early on, for the first seven years or so, it was somewhat important to me to know within a few years when any given Randall knife was made; much less so now...

Early on, I didn't really give much thought as to why any given Randall knife was special; a little more so now...

As an example, this one is special because it's pretty, it's our latest, and it's got a great feel in the hand...

Tom,

I don't recall Model 2's being among your stable of knives. Are those two recent acquisitions? Beautiful knives. Model 2's are among my all time favorites.

Tom,
The white micarta was my 2nd or 3rd Randall. Here is one I submitted for the November 2005 Edo Award contest.
I had the logo turned in!

Tom,
I've seen similar numbers like that scratched on shoes at the bowling alley. Is that an old "rental" gun?

Dale,

That model of the broomhandle Mauser is called a "red nine" C96 converted to 9mm from the original 7.63mm. (in case you were really wondering)

Regards,
Doug

Doug,

" ... "red nine" C96 converted to 9mm from the original 7.63mm." Am I correct [ what I know about all the models and SYSTEM MAUSER but I put a lot of STOCK into your knowledge ] the Red 9 was its own model, not a conversion like slipping a new barrel. Is the 9 in the photo different?

Now a SCHNELLFEUER is an artistic joy but useless to fire ... if this has any meaning to you. Great for WW II movie villains.

Best wishes.

Tony Lepetri and I had a great day at the ECCKS in New York today.
This was to me the "find" at the show. There were several very nice Randall's there today but I'm very happy I found this beauty. This is my first 2-5. It has a very creamy ivory handle and engraving by David Perdue along with a brown gator sheath. It's found a good home.
Best,
Warren

Warren, you have passed a collecting milestone...What a nice knife.

You must be pretty excited to have spelled your fellow New Yorkers name wrong.
