Brass tarnishes if you look at it funny, or even if you do nothing.

NS generally doesn't tarnish, or at least takes a lot longer, unless you do something silly like leave a knife in the sheath.

Of course, there are ways of keeping brass from tarnishing "in dry air", like leaving a very thin layer of Flitz or other cleaner on it.

I think we need not whip this horse anymore. Nickel silver single hilt gets the call!
