Hi everyone. A few years ago Greg Gutcher gave me a beautiful piece of Yew that he said should make a very nice handle. We discussed which model would make the best use of the large block of yew and the end result is the model 14 pictured below.

I removed the double hilt and added a 3/8 inch NS hilt and a NS crowsbeak buttcap. The black is asian buffalo and the other large spacer is more of the yew just cut at a different angle.

Greg was kind enough to make the sheath in the picture for this knife. I feel very fortunate to be on the receiving end of his generosity and his excellent craftsmanship.

Dave

That is a great set, knife and sheath. I have admired your work on knife handles for a while.

I cannot think of enough superlative words to describe that beauty. I especially like the way you alternated the Asian buffalo with the yew. A unique knife for certain!!

Is the Asian buffalo a variety of wood I never heard of, or is it hide?

Thanks Jim. The asian buffalo is a horn that can be bought in slabs or rounds from many knife supply stores. Sometimes the horn is completely black throughout or you may sand into white streaks but either way it looks good when polished. I had to look it up but Vietnam has a lot asian buffaloes.
