If anyone knows of a really good Kydex sheath maker...?

And I mean one who does not use those godawful bulky commercial clips for attaching their sheaths to a belt.

I tried finding somebody last fall, but did not.

The "best" was Mike Sastre and I have a very nice setup from him. But he passed away last year.

One problem I had with him (on the second knife) and with another maker...Mike kept my second knife for a year before I finally got him to finish it...and he made it a slip fit for quick extraction in the way he and a famous knifemaker thought you should carry a bowie. I wanted a secure retention, never got it righted by him.

Another regional sheath maker also sat on the same knife for months, and I finally had to drive part way across the state, ask a mail delivery lady where he lived, caught him at home and retrieved the knife without a sheath.

Just sharing...hope to learn somebody can make sheath as good as Sastre and do it in a timely manner.

PS: Mike Sastre shared his methods in a DVD, and perhaps there is somebody who wants to benefit from that. I think it was published by Paladin Press before they went under.

Searching eBay I don't find his DVD, but there are folks selling sheaths and maybe making what they sell. One of them is ArmorSheathsLLC. I will contact him and ask some questions.

Reply to myself...

Armor Sheaths says:

Welcome to Armorsheaths! I am an avid outdoorsman and knife enthusiast. I design and custom make Kydex Sheaths to fit any knife. In my own experience, the sheaths that came with my knives were not up to standard for my needs. I wanted a no-fail, high performance solution for my hiking, camping, hunting, survival and sporting adventures. I create unique systems that do not rot, soak up water and rust blades, fall apart at the seams and velcro and buttons that fail. I design modular systems to last a lifetime through any conditions.

It looks like your lengthy search and failed trial-and-error attempts finally landed a potential maker.
Thanks for your efforts and reporting on your progress.
Please post if you are satisfied with Armor Sheath!

David--

I don't have a current need. Just did that in case somebody might try him.

I suspect there are others as well.
