Randall Made Knives tried to obtain a military contract in 1954 with the model 14 and 15, and then obtained a NASA contract for the 30 Astros in 1960.

Other than those two, did Randall go in contract with any agency after that?

U.S. Border Patrol had knives made. I don't know if it was a "contract", per se, but they're out there.

Don't know if you have it, but that contract info that I listed is in a great book written by Robert Gaddis in 1993 titled "Randall Made Knives The History Of The Man And The Blades"

The Border Patrol Commemorative was not done or sponsored by the Border Patrol, but they gave Fred Capio permission to have them made and sell them to BP agents.

The story is in one of the RKS Newsletters, and I think in the Gaddis book.

The BP handle that RMK now offers as an option was developed by Gary Randall as he and Bo sat talking with Fred about what knife to make. I have read (or maybe Fred told me) that as they talked about handle shapes, Gary went out in the shop for a while, then came back into the office with the prototype for what is now a classic handle.

Fred had been in the Air Force in Viet Nam where he carried a couple of Randall knives. So, he was familiar with RMK before he had the idea for the BP Special.

Just found the Capio article in the RKS Newsletter.

It is in Issue 70, May 2006.

Reprinted in the above issue, below the article written by Rhett and Fred, is the Beaucant article from the RKS Newsletter #18, 1993. The knife pictured in Beaucant's article shows one of the cherry wood boxes that BP agents could buy for an additional $10.
