Have dug through the 78 pages and probably missed this.

Model 12-8 and Model 12-9 can be ordered with a Standard Model 1 type hilt or a Single Hilt.

Question is if I do that (in brass), are these chargeable or not? (There is a really cool 12-8 with Single Hilt posted out there.)

Sorry if I missed this. Have seen references but they did not address whether or not it was one of the 5 options.

New guy, trying to learn.

Not a chargeable option, Doc. If you go from a single hilt to a double? Different story.
Hope this helps, Capt. Chris

Captain:

Having trouble locating this answer.

Is the Fishtail Handle still available from the shop? If so, can it be done in customer supplied wood?

Sorry if this is a repeat. Still learning.

"Fishtail" handles, almost exclusively found on the Randall #24-Guardian", have been long since discontinued and are no longer available. Hope this helps...although I have a hunch it ain't the answer you were lookin' for.
Best, Capt. Chris

Thanks. Will not move further down this path.

You are the Encyclopedia Britannica of Randall Building.

Captain:

This is probably in this thread and you can shoot me if you feel like it.

Going to put together some Alternative Ivory knives this year. Bowles says it can be scrimmed in black like normal ivory and recommends this site for procurement:

http://www.masecraftsupply.com/Merchant2...ory_Code=ALTIVB

Mr. Randall says no to using the product in 2 inch rod form and wants it to their specified dimensions.

It looks like for a 6 inch blade (CDT, say a model 5) where you want a shaped handle, the AI needs to be: 1 1/4 x 1 3/8 by 5 inches.

The material from this site is available in 1 1/4 x 1 5/8 x any length.

Question 1: Can I send this size bar cut to 5 inches or do I need to have 1/4 ripped off of it?

The material is also available 1 3/8 x 2 7/8 which could be ripped into 2 pieces for handles with slightly greater versatility at about the same expense.

Question 2: If the material has to be cut, is it something I can do or have done prior to going to the shop?

Sorry for being ignorant. Hopefully it will improve with time....

Still learning. Lifetime process.

Doug,
Randall has it's guidlines printed so you know what size they need for different blades and handle styles. They are quite specific.
"less than minimum dimensions will be rejected over maximun by more than 1/8" tolerance will also be rejected"
Hope this helps.
I wonder how they handle stag???

Guess I will have to fire up the bandsaw and shave a quarter off.

Thanks.
