Hi Everyone,

Other than the top edge not being sharpened on the 5-4, why would someone choose one over the other?

Thanks!

Top edge is sharpened on the #8...not the #5. Thumb notches are standard on the #5 and additional cost on the #8. Some states do not allow TB (top bevel sharpened) hence the #5 would get the nod. #8 is upswept on the blade shape and then "drops" to the straight point. #5 is dead-ass straight all the way.
Aside note: "I" prefer the T&B for game work because it cuts around the anas and does a much better (surgical) job of beginning the gutting process. I prefer the #5 for camp chores as you can only get "cut" from one side...should you have a "slip..fall..or a slip-n-fall"!

Been contemplating the #8 myself for a turkey and smaller hunting knife. The 3-5 can be a little big for that and the #28 woodsman is very nice as a general all purpose knife imo for the outdoors.

If the use is primary fishing, then tge #8 is,my choice, same with small game and birds, because you can use the top sharp blade to cut off heads and through bones without hurting the main blade. If big game hunting and camp chores, you can't go wrong with Model 5-5".
