Dale, Kevin,
The model #1 I posted was made in 1990. Make ya wonder, don't it?

Rob,
The large pic of that model 1 is very unique! The stamping looks to be partly ground off. Has anyone else seen this before? I have not, so find it quite interesting.

That yellow is outstanding Joe. That's exactly the reason for liking the old ones.... can't order an old one no matter how much money you have, and how long you're willing to wait. I realize some say they're not as pretty as the new ones, not a strong, etc. (and I understand that too) but man you just can't beat 'em with a stick.

Heck of a knife. Ultra-rare with that black Johnson sheath and butt cap.

Awesome Model 1 Joe. I wouldn't have thought you could get the black sheath at that time.

Joe and Tune,
Awesome knives. Joe,like Dale said "You can't order old". Mitchell, our buddy Chief really likes the forward curved hilt. Your knife has shown me why.
Rick,
Thanks for the age of your knife. Dale and I had a side wager on the age. I will need to drop a can of pop off at Dale's shop tonight.(We're high rollers )

Here's an unusual model #1 from around 1979-1980 with a real "Griffin" handle. I love the contours of this handle shape.

I can't remember having ever seen thumb notches on a #1 before.

In 1988 a small local marine repair company won a contract to replace the teak decking around the number three gun turret of the battleship Iowa. I managed to finagle a few pieces of the original teak. This was quite an acquisition since these old "planks" are usually reserved for the officers and sailors that have served aboard Iowa. Imagine if this wood could talk!
I ordered three knives (two model #15s and a model #1) and sent the material to the shop in March of 1989. On April 19, 1989, while the knives were being made, an explosion ripped through the number two gun turret killing 47 crewmen.
This is the model #1 marked U.S.S. IOWA BB 61
