Something about about the 7" long curved blade on these models..one of my favorites, this one has been well used, apparently someone stuffed an oversize compass in the end, it's developed a few stress cracks on the end over the years but still nice and solid...

Rob,

That 3/4" dia. compass is original to your knife (early 50's). Most every one I've seen has cracked out the butt of the knife it was installed in. Easy to understand why Bo migrated to a 1/2" dia. version.

Thanks Ron, I didn't realize, the lens is cracked too but the compass still works perfectly. I finally learned to bring photos up too, thanks for everyone's help.

Are you sure that the lens is cracked? Compasses of that vintage had a line embossed on the top of the lens. Take a close look, maybe with a loupe or at least a magnifying glass unless it is an obvious crack. Regards, Doug

Thanks Doug, my response is a little late to yours but just noticed... after looking again it appears to be an embossed line, you guys are ok! Here's a couple of the bunch...

Flip side...

Also, I see 1gunner's model 4 back a few posts, very nice indeed, it appears to have a brass pin with the nickel hilt, I had just received the nickel hilt #4 in the photo with a nickel pin, I guess whatever the shop had on hand at the time is what they used...

Rob,

I haven't seen a nickel silver pin used with a nickel silver hilt either before ~1949 or after ~1951. There seems to be a very small window of time this "hardware" was matched up.
