Captain, I beg to differ on the Lignum Vitae.

Most of what is seen is not true Lignum Vitae. The stuff you see on eBay for instance, is from Argentina, and is sort of greenish/olive.

I will send you a piece that came from Key West that looks very similar to the picture.

Could be, Dubie:
I have bought it at various shows for a good many years, from several different sources and never seen any with "knots" (or burls, if you will). I can only go by what I have had experience with. I bought 12 pieces from the Keys 2 years ago, at the "Guild" show, when I met Tom & you there. It was delivered to me from a customer in Longboat Key...It still didn't have the 2-tone coloring, or grain and color of this #19.
It's all good. I am certainly not the "answer grape" on all types of wood. I'll await the stuff from you. I am hoping you're correct, as it would be nice to see some lignum vitae with "figure".
Best, Capt. Chris
P.S. Dubie: Email sent...CCS

Dubie,

If possible, sand a couple sides of a block or two the LV you have down to at least 220 grit. This should be just about enough to expose the grain in the wood. The stuff you showed me that was in your trunk looked to have some nice wavy grain but it needs to sanded a little to get a better look. I remember the blocks you had were like holding a piece of rock it was so hard.

Seeing as how we have been "slightly off / slightly on" topic, here's a few photos to drive Kevin just plain "nuts"!! (Although there are some that say that wouldn't be a drive. That would be a short "putt")
Best, Capt. Chris

Don't worry about carrying it in the original sheath and "messin' it up".
