Agreed. Last week on 60 Minutes, they had an extensive portion of the program dedicated to the faulty Remington triggers. Remington is still not doing a mass recall, but will change it out. Some say even their newer triggers aren't much better.

Wayne,

If you believe the repair is in the interest of firearm safety, I would tell the repair center that you're forwarding the matter to the state Attorney General. You might get a different reply.

Warren,
I sent the rifle to gunsmith friend whose work has been in The Shooting Sportsman Magazine.
His work is impeccable.

I have found that if you force a company to do something, their work tends to be far less than acceptable.

I can proudly say that I have no Remington firearms and shot the last supply of their ammo I had.

The Marlin 336 that I have was made long before Remington took them over. If memory serves me correctly,I think it was about 1956 when my father bought it (about $60).

Ironworker,
I don't have it with me now being that it is in the shop but I think that it has the cut/ballard rifling.

It shoots cast and jacketed bullets very well. Ihave heard that cast bullets do not do well with the micro-groove rifling but I could be wrong.

My friends micro- groove shoots jacketed bullets no problem, cast not so well. We think the micro - groove deform the cast bullets. A super hard lead bullet might be a different story.

Marlin first developed the micro groove for their 22 rifles and thought it would be a good idea for the other calibers as well.

Maybe it works great for the 22 rifles with their lead bullets but like you have said, not so well for the cast larger calibers.

When I get my 336 back,I will check to see what rifling it has. I am quite sure it is cut rifling as I think Marlin came out with the micro groove stuff in the late 50s.

To your point Wayne. I found this interesting and something I didn't know.

The other day,I got the Marlin 336 back from the gunsmith. It has the micro groove rifling.
The next day I had it out to the range with light cast bullet loads, seemed to shoot them OK.

I cleaned it up and put it back in the safe as right now I am busy with the shotgun for the quail trip down south.
