Hey Rick,

I totally agree with Dale that the new ivorite with the spacer combination make for a great handle.

Curious question - will the handle mellow with age like ivory or will it stay bright white?

Cheers,

Alan,
Like a cue ball, I believe it will yellow to a degree over time but that's just a guess. I can sure tell a new cue ball from an older one.

Hey Rick,

Thanks for the info. I might have to get a #3 like you pictured.

Has anyone seen this material in person, in hand? I wonder does it look different than white micarta? I personally don't care for the look of the white micarta, but this looks different to me. The white micarta looks great in pics, and I always wanted a few to display against a very dark back like black or navy velvet. Then after getting some knives made with it, it looked entirely different in person than what I thought. If this "yellows" a bit with age, it should look pretty cool when scrimmed, and have a different appearance than the micarta. It looks great here in the photos, that's for sure!

P.S. What are the advantages to having this new material as opposed to the micarta? Is it more durable than micarta, look more like ivory than micarta, etc.?

I have two Randalls with White Micarta handles. One is a Large Sasquatch, and the other is a #15 with a Single Hilt. Here they are:

The White Micarta has an extremely subtle texture, which are from the embedded fibers that give it its strength. Canvas Micarta has the most texture, Paper Micarta has the least, and Linen Micarta is somewhere between them. From the scans of the 2010 catalog, it seems that it will be smoother than White Micarta, and more "white." White Micarta is indeed white, but with an ivory-like hue. At least, my two examples are consistent in this regard.

I love the canvas micarta, it's beautiful, and by far my favorite! Where do people get it? Does the shop supply it or do you have to buy it elswhere?

If any can get their hands on a piece, I would like to know if it dead, glaring white, or slightly offwhite, ecru or egg shell (or what everhe hell you call it)?

thanks in advance.

It's quite white, Dan. I don't think it is going to "yellow" a great deal with age either!
Best, Capt. Chris
